If every other house on your block is normal and yours is blurred out it might actually make theft more likely because a thief might figure THAT house has something worth stealing in it, that's why they're hiding from me

Yeah I literally have done that, parked and gone for a walk in the neighborhood and it's always fancy houses, if you're asking if I've stolen from them, no I thought an explanation was a better comment than a random anecdote

I mean, criminals can’t drive by a house?

Upload a document that establishes proof of address for the residential location to be blurred. See our help center article for more information. It must be a .jpeg, .png, or .pdf and be less than 10MB. Please upload a document that establishes proof of address for the residential location to be blurred. What stopping me from blurring out every house I look at?

the problem I have with this is that they should all automatically be blurred, like the license plates, and people's faces. Those who want their homes shown should do these steps to add their home. They got it backwards, but I know it's by design.

@OOman_X But you also have Zillow and other websites that have full pictures of houses

Burglars don't "shop" on Google maps, they drive around a neighbourhood to get realtime insights, and only then do they scout their targets. A blurred house, if anything, would just increase the need to scout it. 🤦‍♂️

So when the criminal drives on my street…is it still blurred?

The fact that they require you to verify with documentation that it's your address is so offensive

Criminals can also see your house and all your windows if they just... drive in front of your house. This is nonsense and the guy explaining it at in the video is AI generated.

I guess you're effed if your house has ever been listed, if your local County Assessor lists photos and floorplans on their website, or if the criminal decides they can drive by your house. lol. Same energy as people who blur out their license plates on vehicle listings.

This is just stupid. If they target you, a blurred google map front home view isn't gonna stop them.

Windows on top and to either side, and door in the middle

I’d actually say no Criminals…possibly. Small % Government…absolutely. High % They routinely check properties for upgrades so they can steal more money from you through property taxes If you blur house…they have to come in person Otherwise a lot is done by street view

Mean while drones are sold for $200 with 20mp cameras that literally fly over our homes everyday all day. Burglars don’t need Google. They can also use tax records that have the entire layout of the home. Many of the realtor apps have archived pics uploaded as well.

It's permanent blurring. I had my late parents' home blurred when they passed on and when my sister listed it for sale online, she was informed there was NO WAY TO UNBLUR IT. So, if planning to sell your home, keep that in mind that it's PERMANENT.

I think Realtor dot com etc... is worse, disclosing photos of the interior of your home. It gives the criminal advance locations of many items in your home as well as a general idea of your lifestyle. etc...

Also giving Google, a company currently selling your information to a state that today swore to prosecute you to the full extent of their capabilities if you ever criticize them (you know wich one), data that links your gmail account to that particular house. Yeah, that's stupid

Soooo. Somebody can drive by and see it too, doesn't mean it gives anyone a way to break in. I think this is just them trying to scare people into giving out personal information like what emails belong to who and where they live.

Maybe if you’re famous? What criminal gives a shit about a regular persons house. They mean nothing to them…

balasar's profile picture

I’m gonna put a sign in front of my house that says “this is a gun free zone”, and when the criminals break in thinking it’ll be an easy score, they’ll be met with the barrel of a 12 gauge

Great plan, then when they turn up they’ll be like “oh no, the house is blurry in real life too” and they won’t be able to find the windows Fucking moronic
