Jordi: The problem is, when you have good taste, and people pick up on it, they start blanket copying you. So there's an entire generation of companies whose visual identities just look the same — from their website to their actual products. Taste is something people curate themselves, but as soon as it's copied, it's fundamentally not tasteful. It's not original. An example is Squarespace. It took high-end website design, then commoditized it. Anybody could have a pretty website. It's not really that much of a knock, but a Squarespace website showed that it wasn't the company's own taste. So it commoditized really quickly, then it ceased to be tasteful. That being said, just helping AI labs create better-looking outputs, and working on that problem, feels like a pretty good way to build — at least temporarily — a pretty good business. This is something users, labs, and hyperscalers really care about. Even though Taste Labs got a lot of flak over the last 24 hours, their pipeline probably exploded. I bet they get a ton of business out of it. Unclear what this business looks like in 5 years, but I bet they print in the short term.

building large language models from scratch by Sebastian Raschka was a great chance for me to sit down and study again all the LLM basics > token and positional embeddings > self-attention and what QKV is about > causal & multi-head attention studying llms and how they work can seem overwhelming at first. but once you taste how good it feels to learn these things intuitively there's no going back. I shared the resources and my notes on my repo and I hope it's a motivation if you want to start as well or recap.

David Lean explains how one can learn Filmmaking by watching movies and what constitutes a good movie: "Interviewer: Do you believe that the same principles are involved in making a good amateur film as a good professional film? David Lean: Absolutely the same. The only difference lies in the ambitiousness of the production, but a good film is good on any level, amateur or professional. Interviewer: Then you believe that the amateur can learn something about film technique from watching good professional movies? David Lean: Certainly, if he watches them in the proper way. Interviewer: How would you advice an amateur to watch a film in order to learn from it? For example, how would you advise the amateur to watch 'Bridge on the River Kwai' (1957)? David Lean: I would hope that he would be quite incapable of appreciating the technique of the film. I think that really good filmmaking conceals technique. If a film is really successful, the audience should be so caught up in it that they do not notice how it was made. Interviewer: Do you think then that to really study a movie you should see it more than once, the first time for impact and to enjoy it, and the second time to learn from it? David Lean: This sounds like a plug, but I think so. To really study a film you should have reached the point where you are no longer involved in the dramatic action. In a sense you must become bored with the story before you can study the technique. First time making pho and this is how I did it. Cooking a new cuisine for the first time was more challenging than I was expecting. There was a lot to learn and mistakes along the way but happy it turned out okay. The pho wasn't quite what I was expecting. It had good meaty flavor but lacking that authentic taste. The oxtail fried rice, however, was a nice surprise.

Brian Chesky: "People are born good founders. It's innate. You don't have to learn how to be good founder. No one is born a good CEO. The problem is we founders were never really prepared to be great CEOs. We were taught to learn by doing and that's great for a founder. It is not good as a CEO. I was naturally good founder, I think I was a very good early stage CEO. The moment I had to have an executive team, I really struggled to make the shift from a founder to CEO. In the 2010s, I do not think I was a great CEO. We paid the price for my learning curve. And then the pandemic happened. We had a near death experience and I said screw all the rumination it's do or die. And I learned how to do the job."
