What the actual fuck? Just cut the boards the length the gap should be and screw it in. It will bow the 2x4's outward. If a plumber or electrician needs to run lines they can drill a hole. Dude wasted an hour of work

Fire block would have been easier and faster.

Not a carpenter, but cutting spacers to length seems like a quicker solution.

So much work for nothing. Just put 14.5" fire blocs, everything will straighten itself.
