PM Modi to Visit Cyprus in Warning to Turkey's Erdogan As part of India’s deepening engagement with Europe, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Cyprus on his way to Canada for the G7 Summit, and Croatia on his return. Visit comes amid strained Turkey ties PM Modi’s visit to Cyprus, a country in conflict with Turkey since 1974 comes in the backdrop of growing Ankara-Islamabad solidarity following India’s Operation Sindoor , which targeted terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Strategic EU partners Both Cyprus and Croatia are members of the European Union. Notably, Cyprus is set to assume the rotating presidency of the EU Council in the first half of next year. Modi was earlier scheduled to visit Croatia, along with the Netherlands and Norway, last month, but the trip was postponed due to heightened military tensions with Pakistan. G7 Summit in Canada The G7 Summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from 15 to 17 June. Prime Minister Modi is expected to attend the outreach session on the final day. Since the invitation from Canada came at short notice, the details of his programme are still being finalised. Efforts are underway to organise bilateral meetings on the sidelines. Historic Cyprus visit Modi’s visit to Cyprus will be closely watched, as it marks only the third visit by an Indian Prime Minister after A B Vajpayee in 2002 and Indira Gandhi in 1983. The visit comes amid strained ties between India and Turkey, which openly supported Pakistan during last month’s India-Pakistan military confrontation. Background: The Cyprus-Turkey conflict The Cyprus-Turkey conflict is a decades-old territorial and political dispute rooted in ethnic tensions and rival national interests. The conflict escalated in 1974, when Turkey invaded the northern part of Cyprus following a Greek-backed coup that sought to unify the island with the Greek mainland. Turkey claimed its intervention was to protect the Turkish Cypriot minority. However, the invasion led to the division of the island into two parts. Today, the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus, governed by Greek Cypriots, controls the southern two-thirds of the island and is a member of the European Union. 🚨 52 YEARS OF BETRAYAL: THE CYPRUS TRAGEDY OF 1974 🚨 On this day in 1974, the Greek junta’s coup against President Makarios triggered the Turkish invasion that has occupied 37% of Cyprus ever since. This obviously wasn’t just a “reaction”, It was the culmination of long planned partition, ideas dating back to 1958, enabled by multiple powers: ▪️The Greek Junta: Overthrew the legitimate government in a reckless power grab, handing Turkey the perfect pretext ▪️Turkey: Executed its invasion and ethnic cleansing, turning a constitutional crisis into permanent occupation and division ▪️Britain: As a Guarantor Power with bases on the island, failed to intervene effectively despite treaty obligations, effectively greenlighting the chaos ▪️Henry Kissinger & US Policy: While publicly mediating, Kissinger privately assured Turkey and told President Ford there was “NO AMERICAN REASON WHY THE TURKS SHOULD NOT HAVE ONE THIRD OF CYPRUS” He viewed the invasion through cold realpolitik, prioritizing NATO balance over Cypriot lives and sovereignty, noting that “Turkish tactics, grab what they want and then negotiate on the basis of possession, were right” The small island of Cyprus was sacrificed on the altar of great power games with hundreds of thousands displaced, thousands tortured & massacred, families torn apart and a wound that still bleeds today. What are the lessons of 1974? Small nations must never trust their fate to the “guarantors” who betray them.

🇮🇳🇹🇷 Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says Turkey does not have a "bad history with India," completely omitting that Turkey has been a long-term sponsor of Pakistan's terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and even deployed drone operators to kill Indians during Operation Sindoor. At the 6th IISS Raffles Lecture on June 2, 2026 in Singapore, when questioned about India, Hakan Fidan said: "We really would like to have excellent relations with India because we don't have any border with India. We don't have any u outstanding bilateral issue with India. I mean we don't have a bad history with India. On the contrary, we have every good reason to have to have good relationship. But Turkey is not only the one country that having good relations with Pakistan and historical solidarity with Pakistan on some given issues. I mean we are having differences with Russia on certain issues, with United States on certain issues, with some European countries on certain. But we need we are able to divorce one negative issue from the other. So we can put some some problems in parentheses in brackets and we can go on the positive agenda. I think this is what needs to be done between Turkey and India because we have a lot to cooperate, to benefit and we are mature enough to go on this direction. So Turkey is not the only country who actually have good relations and brotherly relations with Pakistan. There are other countries. If India is going to take actions or be resentful about any countries who is having good relations and enjoying giving support to Pakistan... I don't know... But as I said we have no problem on bilateral level with India and we urge India not to read the the issue from a different perspective." Turkey's decision to back a terror hub and no-hope Pakistan instead of India has not only brought more security risk to Turkey's borders, but it also means that Turkey will miss out on the benefits that the movement of trillions of dollars of trade will have along the IMEC Corridor. But rather than humble themselves, Turkey still wants to behave arrogantly by minimizing their nefarious actions against India and portraying Turkey-Pakistan ties as something as innocent as economic trade, ignoring their "Three Brothers" military nexus with Azerbaijan that has the explicit goal of territorial expansionism, including in Kashmir. Turkey's monumental fuck-up regarding India has only been to Greece's and Cyprus' benefit. Thank you, Turkey. While you prioritize relations with useless Pakistan, we will benefit from being a major node on IMEC.

Turkey wants a better position .Here is the record of the country asking. The Armenian genocide, denied to this day. Pontus and the Assyrians, denied too. Cyprus invaded in 1974, the northern third of an EU member still occupied fifty years later. Gas drilling inside Greek and Cypriot waters, theft renamed sovereignty. Russian S-400 systems purchased while inside NATO, the alliance built to contain Moscow buying Moscow’s air defence. Sweden and Finland held hostage at the door until the ransom cleared. A standing casus belli against Greece, a fellow member, on the books since 1995, a permanent declaration of war conditions against an ally. And the live conversation in Washington is whether to sell this country the most advanced fighter jet ever built. Genocide denier, occupier, Russian-weapons buyer inside the Western alliance, blackmailer, serial threatener of its neighbours. The proposal is to hand it air superiority over the neighbours it has already invaded once. You hand the matches to the man who keeps burning down the street, then act surprised about the smoke. Everyone in the room knows what Turkey is. The Americans know, the Germans know, the French know. Nobody says it, because Turkey sits on the Bosphorus, hosts the radars, holds the migration tap, and prices its geography with precision. So the West pays, in jets, in silence, in swallowed principles, and calls the payment diplomacy. Geography is real leverage and real leverage gets paid. But there is a difference between paying a toll and arming the toll collector who keeps announcing he might rob you. A member that acts in Moscow’s interest, occupies European soil, and erases its own crimes is a threat with a membership card. We have understood it. We have had enough of paying for the silence. Cenk Uygur released a video on how the Israel-Palestine issue should be solved, comparing it to the Cyprus issue. While his intentions may have been good, there were several historical inaccuracies in his speech. 1️⃣ By the time tensions began in the 1950s, the population of Cyprus was roughly 70% Greek Cypriot and 30% Turkish Cypriot. 2️⃣ The Ottomans conquered Cyprus from the Venetians in 1571 and ruled for 307 years before British administration began. Ottoman rule was never considered an “occupation” because Cyprus has never been Greek. In fact, the Ottomans granted rights and religious freedom to Greek Cypriots—who had been treated as state-owned slaves under Venetian rule. 3️⃣ Violence against Turkish Cypriots lasted from 1955 to 1974. It began with the EOKA terror campaign and targeted killings, followed by the Greek Cypriot armed takeover of the Republic in 1963, leading to 11 years of ethnic cleansing and massacres against Turkish Cypriots. 4️⃣ Türkiye did not “invade” Cyprus in 1974. It legally intervened following a Greek military coup aimed at uniting the island with Greece. This was a lawful intervention under Türkiye’s guarantor rights as set out in the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee. 5️⃣ Türkiye did not occupy the entire island. From 20–22 July 1974, it secured around 3%, and during a second operation from 14–16 August, it reached roughly one-third of the island. There was no “land given back”—the island became effectively partitioned, ushering in nearly 50 years of peace between the two communities. 6️⃣ There is no “wall” separating the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Greek Cypriot South. Instead, there is a UN-operated border with nine official crossing points and millions of crossings annually. The border remains one of the most open and peaceful in the world.

🚨 Turkey’s Rise and the Fear in Tehran & Tel Aviv. Turkey’s re-emergence as a regional power is changing the balance of the Middle East. Both Iran and Israel increasingly see Ankara as a rival, even a threat. For Iran, Turkey’s growing influence undermines Tehran’s ambition to shape the region. For Israel, it threatens the strategic dominance Tel Aviv has enjoyed for decades. Turkey has invested heavily in its defence industry. The Bayraktar drone family, the Akinci UAV, and now the stealthy Kizilelma unmanned fighter have reshaped modern battlefields from Libya to Ukraine. Advanced missile systems and naval platforms are giving Ankara unprecedented independence from U.S. and NATO suppliers. Beyond weapons, Turkey is pursuing regional influence. In Syria, Ankara is a counterweight to both Russia and Iran. In the Caucasus, it backs Azerbaijan against Armenia. Across Africa, Turkish military bases and training programs extend influence from Libya to Somalia. In the Mediterranean, disputes with Greece and Cyprus showcase Ankara’s maritime ambitions. History gives Turkey unique leverage. It possesses NATO’s second largest army, and wields cultural and religious ties that reach deep into the Muslim world. This blend of hard and soft power gives it a reach neither Iran nor Israel can easily match. Geography strengthens Ankara further. Control of the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits makes it a gatekeeper between the Black Sea and Mediterranean. Its role as an energy corridor connecting Caspian, Middle Eastern and European markets adds another layer of strategic weight. Even under severe economic crisis and inflation, Turkey is doubling down on defence and geopolitical manoeuvring. For both Tehran and Tel Aviv, this resilience is unnerving. For Iran, Turkey’s military technology and its Sunni-led influence threaten Tehran’s regional narrative. For Israel, Turkey’s expanding arsenal and growing leadership across the Muslim world challenge its position as the region’s undisputed military power. The fea..r is clear: if Ankara continues on its current trajectory, it may emerge not just as a player — but as the decisive power in the Middle East.
