Ashley Fisler, 36, is facing a 12-count indictment that includes first-degree sexual assault of a minor, first-degree manufacturing child sexual abuse material, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, and official misconduct. Prosecutors say she had multiple sexual encounters with a minor middle school student inside her vehicle and classroom in 2021, then continued the relationship by exchanging roughly 7,500 pages of sexually explicit messages after he entered high school. Fisler was arrested in March and indicted this week. She is no longer employed by any school district. Cases like this expose how predators in positions of trust especially teachers can sexually assault children for years while operating inside the very institutions meant to protect them. On my way home from the NATO summit, I stopped in Budapest, Hungary, to meet with leaders of its new government after Viktor Orbán’s loss in April. I’m encouraged by Hungary’s decision to play a more constructive role in European security, including standing with Ukraine, and I look forward to deeper cooperation between our two countries on issues of transatlantic defense.
