🇭🇺 ORBÁN’S FORTRESS CRACKS: TENS OF THOUSANDS MARCH AFTER CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS SURFACE AT STATE-RUN DETENTION CENTER Budapest erupted today as opposition leader Péter Magyar led massive protests demanding Viktor Orbán resign over shocking abuse at a juvenile detention facility - 4 months before elections that could end his 15-year reign. The catalyst: Videos published this week showing employees at a Budapest state-run center physically beating detained children. The former director is in custody on charges of running a prostitution ring, human trafficking, and money laundering. 7 people detained so far. Police raided the facility and placed all 5 of Hungary’s juvenile centers under direct oversight. Protesters marched from downtown Pest across the Danube to Orbán’s office on Castle Hill carrying torches, soft toys, and a banner reading “Protect the children!” The kicker: Magyar, whose Tisza party is polling ahead of Orbán’s Fidesz, just released a 2021 government report showing over 20% of children in state care had been abused. The government buried it for years. This isn’t new. Last year Hungary’s president Katalin Novák resigned after pardoning someone convicted of covering up child sexual abuse at an orphanage. Orbán promised to “prioritize protecting children” when he took power in 2010. Instead: repeated high-profile abuse scandals, suppressed reports, and institutions left to predators. Orbán condemned the abuse this week, saying even “young criminals shouldn’t be treated this way” - effectively blaming detained children. Too little, too late. What’s next: Magyar is turning institutional rot into electoral momentum. Orbán faces his toughest challenge in 15 years with April elections looming. One protester who traveled 200 miles from the Ukrainian border told reporters Orbán’s government “will be gone” by election day. Former surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec is standing trial for raping and abusing hundreds of young patients, often while they were under anaesthetic, in what has been called the worst child sexual abuse scandal in French history. Le Scouarnec, 73, is accused of assaulting or raping 299 children between 1989 and 2014. A search of his home uncovered more than 300,000 photos, 650 pedophilic, zoophilic and scatological video files, child-sized sex dolls, as well as notebooks where he described himself as a pedophile and detailed the rapes of his young victims in meticulously compiled diaries, according to investigation documents. Le Scouarnec had been convicted in 2005 for possessing and importing child sexual abuse material and sentenced to four months of suspended prison time. Despite that conviction, he was appointed as a hospital practitioner the following year.

He is known for his conflict with former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán: in 2011, Baka was removed from his post as head of the Supreme Court before his term expired. The ECHR later ruled that his dismissal was unlawful. Baka will replace Tamás Sulyok, who was appointed while Fidesz was still in power. Sulyok stepped down early in July after the new government of Péter Magyar amended the Constitution.
