Melissa, one of the strongest hurricanes on record in the Atlantic basin, reached category 5 intensity (on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale) with a minimum central pressure of 892 mb and brought catastrophic wind and storm surge impacts to portions of western Jamaica. The UK has formally recognised Palestinian statehood alongside Canada and Australia and more countries including France are expected to join the list this week. Speaking during the ceremony, the head of the Palestinian mission to the UK, Husam Zomlot, said "Palestine exists. It has always existed, and it always will."
