In one of the #Bengaluru's biggest heists, domestic staff allegedly decamped with gold, diamond and silver jewellery worth an estimated Rs 18 crore from a builder's residence at ASK Lake Garden on #Kempapura Main Road in #Yamaluru recently. The accused are a Nepalese couple identified as Dinesh (32) and his wife Kamala (25). According to the complaint filed by Shimanth S Arjun (28), a businessman, the theft occurred between 9 am and 12.30 pm on January 25. Arjun, son of MR Shivakumar, told #MarathahalliPolice that his family has been residing in the house for the past 19 years. His father Shivakumar, a builder, was out of town for work at the time of the incident. Dinesh and Kamala had joined as housekeepers about 20 days ago through acquaintances identified as Vikash and Maya Vishu. They were employed at the house along with cooks Siddharama and Ambika. On January 25, at around 9 am, the complainant, along with his wife and mother, left the house to attend his wife's land worship ceremony at H Cross on Hoskote-Chintamani Road. At around 12.38 pm the same day, Arjun received a call from the cook Ambika, who alerted him that cupboard locks had been broken and valuables stolen, allegedly by Dinesh and Kamala with the help of others. When the family rushed back, they found that a locker in the ground-floor bedroom had been broken open using an iron bar, with about 10 kg of gold and diamond ornaments stolen. Another locker in the first-floor bedroom was also found broken, from which around 1.5 kg of gold ornaments, about 5 kg of silver jewellery and Rs 11.5 lakh in cash were missing. In all, gold, diamond and silver ornaments and cash worth approximately Rs 18 crore were reported stolen. The complainant alleged that the couple had closely observed the movements of family members in advance. Police have registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master). Efforts are on to nab the absconding couple. A senior police officer said the suspects had disconnected the power supply to disable CCTV cameras. The complainant further told police that the couple were replacements for regular domestic staff Vikash and Maya and had agreed to work for a monthly salary of Rs 27,000. During the last three years of global energy turmoil, the NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi Ji deftly diversified India’s crude oil purchases to ensure that petrol prices actually decreased by about 14% and diesel prices fell by nearly 11% during November 2021 -May 2024 period. During the same period, US saw petrol prices soar 29%, while neighbours Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced severe financial stress due to spike in global crude prices. Additionally, to maintain availability and affordability of transport fuels, Modi government made substantial and timely cut in excise duty in November 2021 and followed it up with another cut in May 2022. The Central govt reduced petrol and diesel prices by ₹5 per litre and ₹10 per litre, respectively, in November 2021. Following up in May 2022, petrol and diesel prices were further cut by ₹8 per litre and ₹6 per litre, respectively. Again on March 14 this year, the OMCs played a vital role in reducing prices further by Rs 2/litre. The BJP-run state governments aligned with the pro-people policies and reduced sales tax on transport fuels to further cut rates for the public and rein in inflationary pressures. A late-night murder in Gondikheda Charan village of Dhar district on Tuesday turned out to be a planned crime with the victim's wife, who initially tried to pass it off as a robbery, emerging as key accused. Police arrested Priyanka Purohit (27) and her alleged lover Kamlesh (33) for the murder of her husband Devkrishna Purohit. According to police, Kamlesh paid around Rs one lakh to his aide Surendra Singh to carry out the killing. Surendra is currently absconding. Initially, after the incident, Priyanka had told police that three to four men entered the house at night, held them hostage in separate rooms and fled with jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash after killing her husband. During investigation, the supposedly looted ornaments were recovered from within the house, raising immediate suspicion. During the probe led by SP Mayank Awasthi, several inconsistencies emerged. Priyanka allegedly changed her statements, her mobile phone was missing and the jewellery reported stolen was later recovered from inside the house. These findings raised suspicion about the robbery claim. The nature of the attack - including a deep, targeted head injury - suggested intent rather than a botched robbery. Forensic and circumstantial evidence at the scene further strengthened doubts about the sequence she described. Within six hours, sustained questioning broke her version. She confessed to plotting the murder with Kamlesh, driven by their relationship and the desire to eliminate her husband. Police said Priyanka had been married to Devkrishna since she was around 15. She had recently returned from her parental home days before the incident, during which investigators believe the final plan was set in motion.
