XPENG’s autonomous parking system is cool. The system is able to generate a 3D Model Interface and actively memorize parking lot structures, and space positions. You are able to save your preferred parking spaces, as well as marking entrances, charging spaces, spacious parking spaces, etc. If the selected parking space is occupied, it will automatically park into an adjacent vacant space. I would love to see Tesla implement something like this one day with FSD. Super useful if you live in an apartment buildings, etc.

NEWS: Porsche has announced that its 2026 Cayenne EV will be able to wirelessly charge in your home. It can charge at speeds up to 11kW. The World Premiere of the Cayenne EV will happen later this year. It will be the first model that can be ordered with optional Porsche Wireless Charging receiver unit located in the underbody of the vehicle between the front wheels. Porsche will be the first car manufacturer to bring an 11 kW charging system with a ‟one-box” base plate for battery-electric vehicles to markets. One-Box means that all components, aside from the supply cable, are contained within the floor plate - there is no need to install a wall box or control unit. To initiate the charging process, the Cayenne only has to be parked above the floor plate. The contactless transfer of energy between the two charging units takes place over a distance of roughly four to six inches. To make this possible, the Cayenne reduces the ride height automatically. The base plate has a motion detector and foreign object detection. The charging process is automatically interrupted if interference is detected. A special view in the Surround View parking function makes it easier to maneuver the Cayenne to the optimal charging position. As soon as the parking position above the floor plate is reached and the parking brake is activated, the charging process begins. Customers don't need to do anything else. Porsche Wireless Charging will initially launch in Europe in 2026. Other markets around the world will follow.

In fact, this system is already in place — it only remains to be officially launched very soon. The system will be managed by the Ministry of ICT, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and the City Council. I think City Parking Pvt Ltd should simply be empowered so that whenever you park illegally and are caught on camera, they can clamp your vehicle immediately.

The City of San Diego is now planning to charge hotels $15K per space for valet parking in downtown. Up from just $600 annually, a city rules committee just approved the increase to $15K. The full city council will vote on the issue soon. Charging hotels the full “lost revenue” of a parking space, as if it were fully occupied 365 days per year 24/HRs per day might seem like it makes sense…after all why shouldn’t hotels pay that? Three reasons: 1) parking fees were never meant to balance the budget - they’re meant to cover the nominal maintenance costs and generate turnover to provide greater access to areas. 2) the spaces would not be used 365/24 if they were freed up so at least some discount should be applied to the projected lost revenue of $15K. 3) the downtown hotels were designed with a valet parking plan that was already approved by the city based on the rates previously established. This is yet another policy that will make businesses think twice before investing in San Diego.
