Who would’ve thought a Speed Post parcel marked “medicines” was actually carrying ganja? That’s exactly how a nationwide drug syndicate allegedly operated until Hyderabad Police cracked the network. The gang, based in Jharkhand, allegedly cultivated and sourced ganja, packed it into small parcels, falsely declared the contents as medicines, and shipped them through Speed Post to customers across nearly 21 states, including Hyderabad. Orders were taken via WhatsApp, payments were made through UPI, and code words like “Mango” were used to refer to different quantities of cannabis. The syndicate allegedly handled 80 to 100 orders a day, generating an estimated ₹4 to ₹5 crore annually. The investigation began after H-NEW intercepted a parcel destined for Hyderabad, leading police to unravel the entire supply chain. The probe has also exposed serious gaps in postal parcel screening, prompting Hyderabad Police to seek stricter scanning protocols for parcels transported by rail and air.
