Serving Bengaluru Beyond Duty location - Hebbal Flyover starting ramp towards city market airport Road Today, at around 3:00 PM, heavy rainfall lashed Bengaluru, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion at several locations across the city. While I was at home, I immediately checked Google Maps to identify the worst-affected areas with heavy traffic and waterlogging. Without waiting for any instruction, I stepped out to assist wherever help was needed. As a responsible citizen, I firmly believe that traffic management during emergencies is not the responsibility of the Traffic Police alone. During heavy rain and waterlogging, no single department can handle the situation by itself. It is our collective responsibility as citizens to stand together, support one another, and extend a helping hand in the interest of public safety. Every small effort made for society contributes to saving valuable time, reducing traffic congestion, and, in many cases, protecting lives. Pune’s Viman Nagar is witnessing mounting traffic disorder following the opening of Bengaluru’s popular Rameshwaram Café, with food enthusiasm spilling over into public inconvenience and safety risks. Since its launch, the café has attracted massive crowds from across the city. However, the heavy footfall has resulted in severe traffic congestion on the already busy stretch near Phoenix Marketcity. Cars, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws are being parked indiscriminately—often double-parked—while vehicles halt mid-road to drop passengers, creating frequent bottlenecks. A Pune Times Mirror spot check revealed startling scenes, including a car parked directly opposite the café for over 45 minutes, with occupants eating inside the vehicle. Despite the availability of valet parking, many visitors continue to ignore it, worsening the situation. The chaos is further aggravated by the one-way traffic rule introduced in Viman Nagar over a month ago, which residents say has caused confusion and longer detours. With the café crowd added to the mix, pedestrians—families with children included—are seen crossing the road at unsafe points. Diners are also cutting across carriageways through gaps in dividers, while speeding vehicles swerve to bypass illegally parked cars, creating a dangerous environment. Residents note a stark contrast with earlier conditions, when traffic police maintained order through regular patrols, wheel clamping, and towing of illegally parked vehicles. Now, the absence of visible traffic enforcement has allowed the disorder to spiral. What should have been a welcome culinary addition has instead turned into a daily ordeal for commuters and locals alike. Citizens are urging the traffic police to intervene immediately with strict enforcement and crowd management, warning that without swift action, the area risks becoming a permanent traffic and safety black spot.

Danger on Duty: Barrier Dragged on Bike in Busy Traffic How are road barriers being moved on Bengaluru roads? In a recent video, it can be seen that traffic personnel are shifting a road barrier in a very unusual and unsafe manner. One person is riding a bike slowly, while another person is holding the barrier by hand and moving along with it, matching the speed of the bike. He is not exactly transporting the barrier on the vehicle, but rather dragging or guiding it while walking or running alongside, using the bike’s movement to keep it in motion.Even though the intention may be to reposition the barrier quickly, this method raises serious safety concerns. Handling a heavy road barrier in such a way requires precise balance and coordination, and any slight misjudgment can cause the barrier to slip, fall, or collide with nearby vehicles or pedestrians. On busy Bengaluru roads, where traffic conditions are already unpredictable, such practices significantly increase the risk of accidents. Moreover, this kind of improvised handling does not reflect proper safety standards. Road barriers are meant to be moved using appropriate equipment or vehicles designed for such tasks. Relying on a two-wheeler and manual handling not only puts the individuals involved at risk but also endangers everyone else on the road.Incidents like this highlight the need for stricter adherence to safety protocols and better operational practices. Public safety should always be the top priority, and such risky methods must be avoided in favor of safer and more responsible alternatives. Karnataka State Police S.
