The new face of the imperialist Labour Party, Burnham, has made his first international trip Ukraine. While faces might change and representatives will come and go, the line of the Labour Party is the line of the finance capitalists in the City of London. It is no surprise then that the warmongering line of Starmer has continued with Burnham, a man whose rise to power seems manufactured. Burnham was not even an MP a month before his role of prime minister, but the doors were opened to allow him to quickly become an MP, become a candidate for the leadership of the Labour Party and eventually prime minister of the United Kingdom. As our General Secretary Ranjeet Brar says in this RT interview: "...you see just how lacking our country is in democracy."

Book the hearse and dig the grave, because Labour are already dead. They’re a spent force, getting heckled by the working-class voters they betrayed wherever they go. Andy Burnham can’t reverse their misfortunes. Starmer taints everything he touches, including Burnham’s bid to become MP for Makerfield in the upcoming by-election. Even if Burnham wins and becomes Prime Minister, he won’t reverse mass migration. There is no fiscal headroom for his infrastructure projects and plans to nationalise key industries. The IMF has warned that no more revenue can be raised from raising taxes, and that the bond markets Burnham would rather ignore are on the brink of insolvency. So I don’t buy the polling that says Burnham could win a majority at the next general election. If he enters government, he will be bound by the same fiscal constraints, working with the same system, and have a Cabinet full of the same inadequate Ministers as Starmer has. It doesn’t matter whether Wes Streeting, Angela Rayner, Burnham, Starmer, or Larry the Cat are holding the poisoned chalice in 2029. This will be the last Labour government. The battle now is for who succeeds them.

Andy Burnham is about to become Prime Minister, yet the British public still knows virtually nothing about his actual plans and policies. Instead of facing real scrutiny, he opts for a soft interview with Gary Lineker. When Lineker asks, “Economically, what can you do differently? A wealth tax possibly on the super rich, which a lot of economists are calling for?”, Burnham dodges with familiar vagueness: “I’m going to take my time to properly look at the state of things, particularly the state of the finances. I don’t want to come in and create new divisions… I’m not going to rule things out right now. I do believe we need a greater sense of fairness… We are going to have to work quite hard to ensure we can pay our way and at some point that might be having to ask for a little more.” No specifics. No numbers. No willingness to be held to account. This is precisely why Burnham should sit down with Andrew Neil, the best forensic political interrogator in the country. Neil would cut through the platitudes in minutes, expose the contradictions and gaps in his thinking, press him relentlessly on the real implications of a wealth tax and the rest of his agenda. The British people are not obliged to hand power to someone who refuses to level with them. Burnham owes us proper interviews and detailed policies before he walks into No. 10, not more comfortable chats and carefully worded deflections. This is totally unacceptable and undemocratic.

That means talking first about: cost of living, petrol prices, food bills, buses, local pressures and what voters there actually care about day to day. Rejoiners elsewhere need to understand this. You cannot walk into a Brexit-voting seat and behave like you’re hosting a London panel discussion. Politics starts with listening to the voters in front of you. And as Lewis Goodall points out, Brexit is no longer the insurgent outsider idea anyway. It’s now the status quo people are judging. 🎥👇
