When they say China thinks long term, this 👇 is a perfect example: we're in Dujiangyan in Sichuan province, a massive irrigation project constructed in 256 BC that's still very much in use today, making it literally the longest-serving infrastructure project in human history. The project was supervised by the Qin kingdom (before it became the Qin dynasty, the dynasty that first united the whole of China) and was about dividing the Mingjiang river in two and createb a new river to irrigate the Chengdu plain for agricultural purposes. To this day, that artificial river created from here is the main water supply for what's now the city of Chengdu and its surroundings!

#WATCH | Chandigarh: After cabinet meeting, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini says, "12 agenda items were presented at the meeting, all of which were passed unanimously. It was decided that the monsoon session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly will commence on August 27. We are working on a significant water project—under the 'Water Secure Haryana' program—in collaboration with the World Bank to strengthen water security, conservation, and management in the state. The primary objective of this project is to ensure better and sustainable management of water resources, improve groundwater levels, and guarantee adequate water availability for farmers and citizens. With this aim in mind, the Cabinet today approved the 'Water Secure Haryana' program, which has an estimated cost of ₹5,714.80 crore. The project is being designed to provide sufficient irrigation water in areas where groundwater levels are low. It will cover approximately 48.94 lakh acres of land across 15 primary irrigation clusters and is expected to directly benefit around 45 lakh people. Additionally, water availability will be enhanced through groundwater recharging and the reuse of treated wastewater..."
