I am calling for a one-year moratorium on new data centers until we establish a fair, transparent approval process that puts local communities first.

Before companies rush to build AI data centers in Florida, we need to understand the impact on our communities. That is why I am calling for a moratorium until we have real answers.

I was the first to call for a special session on redistricting, and I am the only candidate calling for a one-year moratorium on data centers. Everyone else is following my lead.

I’m calling for a moratorium on data centers until Florida has a responsible plan to protect our water, power grid, and communities. Byron Donalds wants to hand pristine Florida land over to the industry funding his campaign. Our state is not for sale.

Greg Abbott started the data center madness in Texas. He has the power to stop it TODAY. I'm calling on Abbott to sign an emergency executive order to declare a moratorium on new data centers until he calls the legislature until a special session.

Fetterman: People in my party are becoming anti-data centers. They are calling for a moratorium. That’s lunacy! That’s China first! That’s ridiculous!

NEW: 🇺🇸 Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants a "national moratorium" on data centers until communities can assess their full costs. Citing, grid stress, jobs, water systems, "not pushed off on the folks who live there." 💬

.Pablo Manríquez: There’s a small movement in the Senate to call for a moratorium on AI data centers. King: I think the moratorium is a little strong. I do think that data centers either ought to bring their own power with them or pay the incremental costs that they impose on the grid. I don’t think ratepayers should be subsidizing the power that they use. So that’s where I am.

Understand what’s happening: Big Tech, big utilities, and the politicians taking their money are rushing hyperscale data centers into Florida before our laws can catch up. Byron Donalds says Florida’s pristine lands are open for business. I say Floridians, our water, and our communities come first. That is why I am calling for a statewide halt on new data centers. Florida needs a governor who will fight for the people.

When it comes to data centers, Mike Lawler and I could not be more different. I support a data center moratorium; Mike opposes one. I support giving local communities the authority to put guardrails on data centers; Mike voted to ban local control over data centers. As a former lobbyist for the utility monopolies profiting off of data centers, Mike continues to rake in hundreds of thousands from Big Tech. He voted to give them $80 billion in tax breaks for data centers, then voted to make it easier to build them. As your next member of Congress, I’ll ensure utility monopolies don't pass utility costs onto families, hurt our environment, or exploit our communities. #NY17Debate

Data centers need power, water, and land so of course they’re looking at Michigan. But how should we look at them? When I'm governor, we're going to have a one-year moratorium on all data centers so we can dig into the details and evaluate. Families must come first.

Residents opposing a new $5.1b data center project arrived to a City Council Meeting in Salem OR with a guillotine. The company reps “left because they felt unsafe.” The Council then voted to begin the process for a moratorium on new data centers. 🏆

I’m calling for a moratorium on data centers until Florida has real protections for our water, air, communities, economy, and privacy. Byron Donalds wants to rush them onto pristine land while dismissing the consequences. That is not leadership. It is proof he is out of touch and unfit to govern Florida.

Yesterday, I spoke out against data centers and AI layoffs at the Seattle City Council. Under mass pressure, the City Council passed a one-year moratorium on new hyperscale data centers. This is a victory for working people, but one year is far from enough. My independent socialist campaign for Congress is the only one in this election fighting for an end to hyperscale data centers, for democratic public ownership of all existing data centers, and for a public-sector living wage jobs guarantee, funded by taxing the rich, to counter the AI-related mass layoffs. #datacenter #socialist #independent #ai #freepalestine

According to a recent poll, 63% of Americans support a one-year moratorium on new AI data centers—including majorities of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. The American people want AI to work for them, not just the oligarchs.
