I’m calling for a moratorium on data centers until Florida has a responsible plan to protect our water, power grid, and communities. Byron Donalds wants to hand pristine Florida land over to the industry funding his campaign. Our state is not for sale.

Byron Donalds took $6M from Big Tech to flood Florida with AI data centers.

Just run that clip in every commercial on repeat and you will send Byron’s ugly ass back to Brooklyn in November.

@AmandiOnAir Good politics for the moment. Bad policy though. Imagine trying to limit the buildout of the servers that run the internet 30 years ago. That’s the equivalent. If I were the Chinese government, I’d spent endlessly to convince Americans that data centers are dangerous.

I do understand your perspective. But the need to pause is because big tech is rushing in before states like ours have established appropriate environmental protections, assessed the limited economic impact, and instituted other safeguards. They know this. It's why they're playing Donalds.

We have to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. There are appropriate places for everything. The average data centers uses about the same amount of water as the average 18-hole golf course. But golf courses aren’t critical to our economy and our future. They are critical to my step-father’s happiness. Data centers don’t need to be on every block, but we need them, just like we need hospitals, prisons, and garbage dumps. You’re a policy guy. A moratorium is a good campaign talking point, but I know you can come up with a better solution.

@davidjollyfl @AmandiOnAir You sound like a lobbyist for data centers.

@davidjollyfl @AmandiOnAir I’m an advocate for supporting the critical infrastructure that will power the next generation of world-changing technology. No one has to pay me to take that position. I’m also an advocate for expanding green energy to help power data centers (and everything else).

@davidjollyfl @AmandiOnAir Whilst advocating please remember Florida is different due to the aquifer. We need to protect it, not drain it.

@davidjollyfl @AmandiOnAir There are so many great water solutions out there. Israeli desalinization technology turns ocean water into drinkable water. Data centers don’t need drinkable water either. David is a policy guy. He can find a good solution.

I'd take a data center over a condo full of New York clowns pumping out human waste on our coral reefs. What is you position on repealing the Live Local Act?

They need to be stopped completely. They serve no purpose other than to implement totalitarianism. No!

They see wetlands and think how can we make money building on them, Donalds is a disaster.

Why would you want to impede high tech 21st century jobs from coming to Florida? Just make a rule they have to construct their own power sources and move on. This is why the middle majority votes for the extreme right over the extreme left. Wake up before you get slaughtered.

campaign finance is a real, separate issue from whether datacenters should exist if Donalds is trading land access for campaign money, that's a corruption story on its own merits, dressing it up as "moratorium until Florida has a responsible plan" just uses one legitimate complaint to justify a blanket policy it doesn't actually prove

Have you noticed the Trulieve situation in Jefferson County? It’s better to never allow facilities like this.

None. Just put them all in Georgia - that state is largely wasteland. (especially around Athens)

So you’re going to give up the device you posted this from? Also, why no objection for the last 40 years that data centers have been being built?

Jolly you're our best hope to exposing this fraud. Please protect Wild Florida and reform the FWC so real conservationists are there and not developers selling out. I'm sick of the Overdevelopment and this guy is backed by every big developer and big tech donor there is

@TheRickWilson NO to Data Centers - they clog up and take over what little pristine land is left in FL - make $$ for the small group of wealthy owners not the rest of us Floridians.

This is a false choice. The answer isn’t stopping data centers—it’s requiring them to earn the right to operate. Protect our aquifers. Require sustainable water use. Invest in grid capacity. Prevent costs from being passed on to consumers. Hold operators accountable. Innovation and protecting our communities aren’t mutually exclusive. We need to stop pretending they are. Reducing this debate to “build everything” or “build nothing” is politically convenient, but it’s not serious policy.

I haven’t really understood why you’d want to put a data center in Florida, considering the heat and humidity seems like it would be a whole lot more expensive than putting it someplace where they have cold winters

Beckton Peddy's profile picture

I feel like we're really overstating the demand for data centers in FL with all this talk Moratorium or no moratorium, very few want to build data centers here due to hurricanes (hello insurance!), humid heat, & lack of grid capacity/subsidy Could be a potential solution to the property tax issue tho 🤔

Just a reminder that @davidjollyfl was a huge lobbyist in DC, has no real convictions and will say whatever he thinks he needs to in order to get elected. He is the epitome of “the swamp”. 20 years ago he lobbied for massive defense companies during the Iraq war.

A policy in which the data centers can build but must shoulder the cost of the infrastructure upgrades (that weren't already necessary) to sustain them might make sense. The public shouldn't subsidize operating costs through infrastructure upgrades and resulting higher utility prices, nor should Florida reject incoming industry outright. Byron would have us all paying the data centers to come here. But there are sensible alternatives to full denial too.

I'm not voting for Byron, but you are an absolute liar. There are already laws on the books that protect us from all of this, thanks to our great @GovRonDeSantis It's pathetic that you have to falsely scare people into voting for you.🙄 That's all you have...false scare tactics.
