This temple was built by Chola emperor Rajaraja I between 1003 and 1010 CE, the temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some interesting facts - It is built in stunning natural colour of granite without the use of cement or binding agent. The architecture is so perfectly balanced that it’s dome casts no shadow at noon. The Vimana made up of an 80-ton granite block is one of the tallest in South India . The main temple houses one of the largest Shivalingas in India made of a single 20-ton granite block. There are a total of 108 additional Shivlingas inside the temple complex. The revival of Cholakkara Durga temple in Malappuram is the triumph of Dharma over all evil. Innumerable hurdles had to be overcome to revive this ancient temple destroyed during the 1921 Moplah riots. Thanks to all who supported and contributed to make this happen. Thanks to Shri Girish Kaimal for contributing the ceiling of the temple in the name of his parents Shri GopalaKrishnan Kaimal and Smt Radha Kaimal. Restoration of the temple till the ceiling is complete, the work of the temple kitchen is ongoing. We will complete the rest of the restoration work and restart worship of Cholakkara Durga Devi soon. This is huge! This is Cirata, the largest floating farm in Southeast Asia - and it doesn't grow rice. Thanks to Masdar for creating this impactful project. It took a lot of hard work and collaboration between the UAE and Indonesia - and the results are incredible.

In 2016, Moplah encroachers succeeded in getting a court stay against restoration of the SankaraNarayana temple in Malappuram and got criminal cases registered on devotees for praying at the temple. In 2024, UgraNarasimha Charitable Trust restarted worship at the temple ruins. The impleading application by UgraNarasimha Charitable Trust in ongoing court case is being opposed by Moplah encroachers. The attempt is to delay the case as much as possible and prevent restoration of the temple. We will not give up, we will restore this temple. #ReclaimTemples
