The concern is sound. Pretexts are cheap. Magazines are not. What is being sought is not a winnable war with Russia. It is a narrative that keeps the empire looking sovereign while inventories, industry, and political pain thresholds say otherwise. NATO cannot fight a major war in Russia’s neighborhood and remain NATO as presently imagined. That will not stop the attempt to find a story that makes the attempt look inevitable.
