John Collison: We only had 50 users two years after founding Stripe “We started working on Stripe in the Fall of 2009, and we launched Stripe in September 2011,” John Collison reflects. “I remember right at the beginning when we were starting it I said to Patrick [Collison], ‘Yeah let’s do it. How hard can it be?’ Which gives you a sense of our mindset. And the answer was: two years of difficulty. We had not predicted that.” John remembers feeling dejected when Stripe only had 50 users two years later: “When you spend two years getting 50 users, it doesn’t feel like a whole lot of progress. It feels like things are going pretty slow.” But this is one of the challenges of startups, he argues: “If you’re working on a startup that’s a bad idea, it’s going to feel like slow-going. But if you’re working on a startup that’s a good idea, it may feel like slow-going too.” Yet slow growth has a silver lining: “I think the thing that allowed us to take off in the subsequent years was the fact that since we were spending so much time on each one of those users; since we were hyper-focused on building a great product; and since we weren’t dealing with problems of scale yet, that allowed us to build the product that we wanted. Part of the culture that set in really early on was taking abnormally good care of those early users.” The Stripe founders would get an email or phone call anytime a user ran into a bug. When they sent the customer an email moments later alerting them that the bug was now fixed, people’s minds were blown. The insights I got from it are just insane. TLDR; 1. OpenClaw analyzes your Stripe 2. Tries your onboarding like your ICP 3. Gets Paul Graham's knowledge base 4. Gives you a full report to fix your SaaS 1 - Create a "read only" API on Stripe. Give it to your OpenClaw (or whatever agent you're using right now). Ask it to analyze the full data: - Pricing - Churn - Conversion - LTV - Trial to paid rate - Discount impact - Invoice patterns Ask it to really go deep. Not the surface level. Go into every corner. What makes Mo worth listening to is that he saw these systems inside Google years before most of us had even heard the term AI. So they're tricking people into paying $7, $8, $9, $10 for a dozen eggs. Basically the same as the cheap eggs. All the plain white eggs they sell at Costco in the 2 dozen and the 5 dozen pack, those are all cage free. And you know what? They're only $2 a dozen. My grocery store here now doesn't allow you to buy any eggs at all for less than $4 a dozen, and they're the cheapest ones. If you're gonna spend extra on cage free or free range. You may as well spend a dollar or 2 more and get something organic.”

But what’s the most exciting to me is: I’ve had this vision of Klarna to become this digital financial system to help people save time, save money, and with these tools I can even foster now at an even higher pace. Deliver these services to people, which is amazing. And I’m also seeing people are adopting our banking services at an accelerated pace. They seem to enjoy the trust we’ve given them, and they—and they trust us a lot. And that’s just exciting. I’m just seeing such an amazing acceleration of the business, which is fantastic. Introducing /visual-plan - a skill to generate rich, visual plans for Claude Code and Codex. Plan mode in Claude Code is incredible. But I always find my eyes glazing over when it gives me this huge markdown essay in my terminal. I found I can make much better visual plans with reusable components. So I made a skill called `/visual-plan`. It generates plans as MDX with visual, interactive components. Diagrams, interactive API specs, schema design changes, annotated code, and even pan and zoomable wireframes. So for any UI work, you can look at a wireframe first, comment on it, iterate, and then have the agent work. I’ve found this to be a much more intuitive interface for reasoning about what the agent is doing. It’s somewhat inspired by that popular post about how HTML is better than Markdown. But HTML can be slow and verbose to write. And it doesn’t look good checked into a repo. This has really made me feel like humans and engineering are entering a new abstraction phase, where we reason about things at the plan level. As long as the plan is good, agents are getting more and more reliable at executing on it. Almost to the degree that we trust the C compiler to compile to assembly reliably. Plans are the new intermediate representation. I also made a skill for the reverse of this, called `/visual-recap`. After the agent works, it gives you a recap of everything it did. Same idea: wireframes, interactive API specs and diffs, schemas, annotated code, etc. So now when you’re reviewing what the agent did for you, or looking at a pull request of somebody else’s code, you can see a visual recap instead of just reading a wall of text.
