I asked Apple if Vision Pro is “on ice.”

Cool interview but he had the opportunity to say the Vision Pro form-factor is currently a priority and we believe in it and he said nothing of the sort. Quite a surprise actually given he runs Vision Pro marketing.

Apple doesn’t comment on unannounced hardware. That’s nothing new. What I did hear throughout the keynote was “Apple Vision Pro” over and over again. visionOS received massive updates, and many of them are fundamentally vision based. You can’t simply swap that out for screenless glasses.

That's because they're working on a slimmer/cheaper one for ~2029 (which may or may not launch) and they are building up the OS for the AR glasses.

Apple working on lighter, cheaper, or different Vision hardware has never struck me as evidence that Vision Pro is on ice. Not one person I know expects the current Vision Pro form factor to be the final form factor. My concern with this type of reporting is that it can leave people with the impression Apple is giving up on Vision altogether, when the reality may simply be that Apple is doing what it has always done: iterating on the hardware while continuing to invest in the platform.

The future is still being worked on. He runs Apple Vision Pro marketing. We worked together at an augmented reality contact lens company. If you know anything about Apple, they rarely let an executive talk like this about the future. Great interview and very rare. Congrats!

The new Reality Composer Pro 3 is massive. Spatial Preview is big. Siri AI is so nice. Lots of other big things in visionOS 27. If you watch the full interview you’ll see these things. I’ll do a deep dive soon as well.

Dive into the updates and you’ll see they’re heavily invested, and continue to invest, in building the best spatial computing platform on the planet. Companies don’t invest at this level just to sell through existing hardware.

At what level exactly, I watched the entire interview there was nothing tangible he said that gave any clear roadmap towards the future of the Vision Pro specifically, it's clear they're focused on new AI hardware and have abandoned the AVP

Reality Composer Pro 3, Spatial Preview, live immersive video, and foveated streaming are all tangible investments in Vision Pro. Wanting a hardware roadmap is one thing. Calling the platform abandoned is another.

Yall forget that the Macintosh was considered a failed product for nearly a decade. Now look where it’s at. Vision OS is still in it early days. Laying the foundation for our future of computing.

It’s a great tool for my work- I use it everyday. I think it’s way ahead of its time, but for me it’s perfect. I find the spatial computing amazing, I plan to use it for teaching and training - the trades could really use it, hopefully it’s adopted for other workflows than mine.

Didn’t they release Siri Ai in Vision Os?

They did and it’s beautiful.

Do people actually think visionOS is dead? The XR headset is obviously a dead end, but a lot of the same platforms and concepts carry over to holographic waveguide displays…

People are waking up to the poisoned Apple, and the death of Steve Jobs’ dream.

I wish they’d just give us custom environments. This pano spatial scene is not it. They need to unleash this to devs already. Should have been done in OS 2.

This is California speak for “Vision Pro is 100% on ice.” Cupertino is a high context communication culture that places an enormous emphasis on saving face.

I’m legally blind and use a Vision Pro for my doctoral work. Works great. Wish there were some additional accessibility options for those of us with low vision.

Maybe not on ice. But certainly not on fire either. Else I would have been able to buy the product in any northwestern European country. Turns out you can't.

Why don’t they make a lighter version with better battery though? Plastic version and no eyes in the front please

People won't leave it alone. It flopped, Apple failed, move on. For any company it might be a semi good sales, for Apple it is Tim Cook's biggest flop after Siri.
