I asked Opus to make me an extremely realistic betta fish for my Mac wallpaper. Now it's living on my desktop and likes to check out my cursor! Code below.

Finally a betta fish, which is not struggling in small living space. Beatiful creation, sir! 🤍

Yeah the real ones are very pretty but always make me very sad

Me as well... Poor creatures.. There is something to think about, parents will buy that little creature with that ***** small tank, cuz their kids want it (for a while). But how the hell is legal to selling and let them live like this by petshops? I know... profit is profit, but it's 2026 Jesus Christ

The idea of a desktop ant farm is so stupid it might be great. Who is gonna do it?

That's a really great idea lol

Ok. You've inspired me.... Gonna need to lock in time for the terrarium this week.

Lmk how it goes!

this is a very creative way to make your screen look lively

it checking the cursor is the part

CPU: *dies*

When you delete a folder, it should disintegrate and the fish can eat it 😀

😂

back again with another banger man! i love it how do you create these??

I used this prompt to start it: In a HTML file, generate an interactive 3D version of this betta fish, which loosely tracks the cursor, as if it is some curious object. If the cursor is idle, it swims around slowly, realistically, using the exact behavior of a real betta fish. The environment is 3D, just like a real fish in a tank. This means it can turn around, and rotate any way it wants in 3D space. Push the limits of extreme realism: render every scale, how the light interacts with the translucent folds of the fins, and how they sway in the water (no water needs to be rendered). Observe how the colors blend, and how the fish's body bends. This extreme realism also applies to its natural behavior. It should be completely indistinguishable from a real video. The background should be completely black. No words on the screen at all. Here is an image for your reference. Do 3 critic rounds to achieve the intended target. --- Then it's just constantly iterating and refining (which is still quite some work)

wow thanks!! this is so helpful. I've actually been working on a html demo video myself for a project i've been working on for the last 6 months so I've been teaching myself quite a bit about animations and graphics so I really appreciate this advice!

All the best!

Dude, use the mapped fly brain and let it control your desktop fishy

Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing, Chase!

Thanks! Always interesting to see what it can do

Beautiful!

thanks 🐟

haha was working on this today :

Good naming!

Haha I was thinking about it for a long time

I got your idea for an animated desktop aquarium and made one with Astra. Still finishing it.

Looks amazing!

Thank you! I miss my teenage years aquarium so much I can't believe I can just wish it into existence!

Me too I also had one before I went abroad, and I would just spend hours staring at it

does it get bored when you stop moving the mouse?

Yea then it just swims idly around

the wallpaper has more enrichment than my actual betta did

Dope

cool

It looks interesting. Does it affect the batteries?

Yes, sadly the batteries don't like it much. 10-20% per hour if you leave it on. If a window covers it, it auto pauses

But it's very cool, thanks

next move is having it react to actual system events, cpu spike makes it dart, low battery makes it float sideways. that's when it stops being a wallpaper and starts being a pet.

Time is a flat circle. 🐟🐠😌

put the fly in it 😬

The fish gets the cursor. The rest of the desktop can fight over my attention.

How much power will be consumed

Amazing job done bro

The cursor check is the detail that sells it. A wallpaper that notices you is closer to a pet than to an animation

Please, a live landscape based on the autumnal set of The Village, the 2004 movie of Shyamalan.

How's the CPU usage holding up while it tracks your cursor around the screen?

The way it turns toward the cursor makes it feel like a pet instead of a wallpaper. Auto-pausing when a window covers it is a smart touch too, especially with that battery hit.
