The committee also advanced SB 780. Sen. Shane Jett’s bill would make it a felony if someone took your American flag down at your house (or on state property) and replaced it with another flag. Max penalty: up to 3 years in prison and/or $3k fine Sen. Goodwin brought up Jan 6th.

This is blatant discrimination against LGBTQ+! Is discrimination OK as long as he picks a smaller targeted group to attack? Is dressing up on Halloween harmful? What about dressing up to entertain others for theatre or drama or comedy (which is what drag & cabaret is)?

I was glad to see my bipartisan legislation with Kirsten Gillibrand, the Officer John Barnes and Chief Michael Ansbro Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program Expansion Act of 2026, get passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday. It takes important steps to speed up and strengthen benefits for injured public safety officers. Law enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities, and we have a duty to stand by them.
