I cannot believe this... They just pulled down the Iryna Zarutska mural in Providence, Rhode Island today. The mayor called her memorial “divisive.” George Floyd got murals in EVERY MAJOR CITY and it was called "UNITY"!!! ...but Iryna's face on a wall is divisive?!!!

Mayor Brett Smiley is demanding it be torn down, calling it “divisive.” If this had happened to me, a lifelong Rhode Islander born and raised right here, would they rip my mural down too, just because I’m not a Democrat? For years Rhode Island has been pushing to disarm women and endanger their lives, but the same type of career criminal that killed Iryna isn't going to stop hurting people just because of a law. If society isn't going to protect us, women need to be able to protect ourselves. This isn’t remembrance... It’s erasure. Protect women. Remember Iryna. Don’t let them erase her memory.

New mural of Iryna Zarutska is now starting to go up in Providence, Rhode Island! Artist Ian Gaudreau had been working on a previous mural of Iryna at the LGBTQ bar The Dark Lady. But after condemnation by Mayor Brett Smiley and other protesters, the club announced it would cancel the mural project. Now the restaurant “Opa” on Federal Hill is allowing the mural of the slain Ukrainian to be painted on their building.
