New mural of Iryna Zarutska is now starting to go up in Providence, Rhode Island! Artist Ian Gaudreau had been working on a previous mural of Iryna at the LGBTQ bar The Dark Lady. But after condemnation by Mayor Brett Smiley and other protesters, the club announced it would cancel the mural project. Now the restaurant “Opa” on Federal Hill is allowing the mural of the slain Ukrainian to be painted on their building. Statement from the owner of Opa, Francois Karam, on the new mural of Iryna: “She was once an immigrant chasing the American dream. She worked to build a life for herself and lost it along the way.
