I can't believe I just learnt that Chrome lets you: - Emulate focus so you can click freely in devtools - add debugging for when HTML subtrees change WHERE WAS THIS THE PAST 5 YEARS?! Here's how you enable focus emulation:

and here's how you debug HTML subtree modifications! (note this is a lot less practical in this particular case, but can be very useful for debugging non-focus interactions)

I just put this together into a blog post for posterity as well!

No need to go into settings! You can cmd+shift+p and type "emulate focus". Even quicker :)

What pisses me off is Chrome still hasn’t added a feature to hide all those extra tabs under inspect element. I don’t have to use all the tabs give me a option to only show some.

@clivemchd Not sure if this is what you want, but you can toggle the entire set of secondary tabs ON/OFF by hitting the Escape key :)
