Looks great! Would you recommend Unreal to an indie dev? What are your pc specs?

I'd say just install it and try it out. You'll see how it runs.

For your top-down style (which looks amazing, btw), consider your pirate buddy. How do the attacks north and south facing feel?

The pirate guy actually only has left and right animations and is only for side scrolling. The pokemon like looking characters are 8 directional top down. I still haven't tried north and south attacks, but wanna try with a zelda type game soon!
