I created this virtual keyboard with Gemini 3.5 Flash last night. It's an old hand at these tasks.

🔥 UI components used to consume entire development sprints. Now a lightweight model handles the heavy lifting in a single night. Technical execution is no longer the bottleneck. Future builders will win entirely on system architecture and product vision instead of raw syntax.

I remember when i got my first macbook pro in 2014 it came with its own remote u could use, id love to see someone turn the siri remote into a wii remote for the mac that could also be used as a clicker. Would be genuinely amazing

you mean this one? I had one of those too when I bought my first MacBook Pro back in 2007.

Mine came with this one (and i think it was the last model to come with one too), i used to use it a lot with the quicktime player whenever my dad would buy me dvds. It also worked for music and youtube.

the part that decides if a tv keyboard is actually usable is d-pad traversal cost, the average clicks-per-character. qwerty grids feel natural but test badly on a remote because the common letters land far apart. curious whether gemini optimized layout for focus distance or just dropped a standard grid. thats usually where these live or die.

the more I use this keyboard, the more I understand the points you mentioned. I haven't done any optimization for them yet. Gemini's implemented movement calculation is linear, and I feel that operating it on a trackpad would actually be very inefficient especially for moving across a qwerty keyboard. my idea was to implement a backup input method for my remote control. So the primary function is voice input. do you have any idea to optimize the traversal cost?

Yes, the mini trackpad is used to control the cursor when the keyboard disappears.

I haven't been working on this app for very long, so I haven't made the decision yet. It most likely won't be open source. I might offer a free version with a certain daily limit instead.
