Archie and O'Brien are confusing education with intelligence. I know Archie isn't intelligent, as he's calling O'Brien.

Because having a degree means shit if everyone has one. Get a job as a plumber, electrician, building - something using your hands and stop navel gazing.

The lad was in the process of admitting that his peers who had done a lot better than him were more driven when bin bag steered him off it. Can’t have realism can we? Ps For the tools, I’m not rich. I’m not high achieving in my career. I’m comfortable & content. Because I can accept, with the exception of inherited wealth, that people richer than me have risked more-worked harder- are cleverer than me.

I feel so so sorry for Archie. It's not on buy sadly many will be in the same position.. If Archie is reading this - please don't give up! Please. You will get there...take ANY job for now and show what a grafter you are. In work always makes it easier to get in

I never reply to O'Brians tweets, but for you lad I will make an exception. As an uneducated man from the North of England I hear you. The reality is this: You cannot just walk into a 100k a year job anymore. Regardless of your qualifications (this was the issue with everyone going to university) You have to actually work! Make your own way, blaze your own trail. Stop relying on getting a top job in the City. Take your mrs up north, Edinburgh is amazing! Industry and services are growing. Jump in low and just do it for yourself. Your degrees mean nothing im afraid....without showing you've got what it takes. Go for it, its on you!

I get the sense Archie is talking to the wrong person in James O’Brien. I recruit people for a living and unless you are unique and too good to ignore young folk need to humble themselves (not saying Archie or every young person isn’t humble) and take up opportunities that may be less attractive than the ones they actually want - for example, in the UK right now most of our services are at an all time low - these young folk could easily fix this problem with their enthusiasm and energy if they apply themselves correctly. Degrees merely tell an employer that this person can be relied upon to show up and perform a task to a certain level. Employers want to understand how someone can be exceptional. This generation of young folk can be and in some cases are exceptional - there is an abundance of opportunity out there but in many cases they need to humble themselves and try the less attractive options - it’s character building for one. My message to 21 and 22 year olds now would be take the first step no matter small it is; learn something new, if it’s not challenging enough, ask for something more challenging or look for something else - but keep trying to do something new. You’ll eventually land on the thing that you enjoy.
