#VPDNews: An assault charge has been approved against a man following an alleged unprovoked attack on a woman on Commercial Drive. The incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. June 29. The woman was walking near East 1st Avenue and Commercial Drive when the suspect, who was walking in the opposite direction, allegedly elbowed her in the face. Vancouver Police previously issued a release in March 2026, after the same suspect was charged in connection with four alleged stranger assaults against women in the downtown core. Dylan Brandon Gaita, 29, is now charged with one count of assault in relation to the June 29 incident. He is currently in custody. VPD is asking any member of the public who may have witnessed the June 29 incident, or have witnessed a similar incident in the past, to contact police. Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward. “Incidents like this are serious and frightening for victims and witnesses,” says Constable Megan Lui. “Some people may feel too upset to talk to us. We encourage anyone with information to come forward and speak with investigators as they work on this case.”

When I confronted him, he said, “Sorry, I have a bad habit of doing that,” and I stood by him for over five minutes after he deleted image after image of me, sat on the train - just trying to get home. I shared that video to raise awareness because this happens to far too many women like me. Women should feel safe in public spaces, free from invasive and frightening behaviour. As the cosplayer of Bomb Voyage in these photos and this video, I have a few things to say: 1. The “weapon” I am holding is a prop which is marked with an orange tip and ribbon. The orange tip was very visible to everyone in the atrium, it's just difficult to see through the pictures. 2. The prop was cleared as okay to use by the convention staff and Atlanta police. 3. The prop is not mine. It was borrowed from another cosplayer for a brief period. It’s honestly sad how much attention this is getting. There are far more important things to focus criticism on at conventions: Sexual assault, inappropriate behavior, inappropriate attire in public places, illegal substance abuse, and the list goes on. I do apologize for pointing the gun at people as I realize that was inappropriate of me to do that. I did not intend to scare or threaten anyone.
