The Combatting Antisemitism Hate and Extremism (Criminal and Migration) Bill or Hate Groups Bill will come before the Senate this afternoon. I OPPOSE the Bill and will vote against it in its entirety. The Bill if passed expands state powers in ways that will erode freedoms under the guise of protecting against “hate”. The big winners today will be the security state not everyday Australians who will soon be even less free than they once were. Australians already face far too much regulation of free speech at both state and federal levels. Law-abiding gun owners don’t need further restrictions either. Why is the South Australian Labor Government removing references to the names : 🔴 Christmas Day 🔴 Anzac Day and 🔴 Australia Day in their Public Holidays Bill 2023? The Bill also gives the government the power to change the date of any public holiday. Australia Day is on life support under this Labor Government. This morning I moved to introduce a Bill to amend the Sex Discrimination Act to return the definition of man and woman to the Act. The Bill was designed to protect women’s sport and women’s spaces but Labor and the Greens wouldn’t allow it to pass into the second reading. Absolutely unbelievable but this issue isn’t going away! In 2013, the Gillard Labor government amended the Sex Discrimination Act to remove the definitions of "man" and "woman" and inserted "gender identity" as a protected category. In less than one week, some (but not all) social media platforms will be required by Australian law to prevent under 16s from accessing their services. How will they enforce the rules? We don’t really know. Will more and more platforms be captured by the law? We don’t really know. Will every Australian adult need to verify their identity in order to prove their age? We don’t really know. What do we know? Well we know that the Government are out there desperately trying to sell it.
