I enjoy combat in The Witcher 3.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED I know there's people out there who enjoy it, but I'm not one of those. I've got ~1k hours across 2 platforms on this game and I absolutely despise the combat even a decade later.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED I think it's above average combat in an otherwise 11/10 game. That's why it stands out imo.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED The only way I could make that combat bearable was the alchemy build, because I could just brute force my way through it. So if I'm even in a mood for Gwent, I just whip out the good ol alchemy and ignore the combat mechanics

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED Honestly, I think in the one on one fights it’s fine, if not easy. But as soon as it becomes multiple enemies it really starts to breakdown. Maybe I haven’t gotten far enough, but I find myself frustrated at the combat more than I enjoy it.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED I think a lot of the fun with combat in this game is the prep, so that's not an unreasonable complaint. I think gathering the right oils and decoctions for a monster hunt and then executing the boss fight is really satisfying.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED Sure, sure, my gripes are mainly with the moment to moment player inputs IN combat. And I wouldn’t even be complaining much if this game didn’t get obviously inspired by much better dodge/parry/block games. But I guess Sekiro and the Arkham series have spoiled me.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED 1st, Witcher 3 is 11 years old. For reference, thats older than Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, and Overwatch. No shit the combat isnt 2026 standard, this is an ancient game 2nd, and more importantly, combat enjoyment scales linearly with your level of skill utilizing signs

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED I just started playing yesterday. I’m not the best gamer in the world and for me it feels fine. I’ll get better at it at some point because so far I’m really enjoying it a lot

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED it's really not that bad, it's just kind of average. The game is still excellent overall tho, the combat is probably the weakest part of it.

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED I will say that i thought people were lying to me when i first played and the combat just... is? Like it's not anything special, i did however remapped some stuff to use my extra mouse buttons so maybe that's the reason, but for the most part the combat just works.d

@thewitcher @CDPROJEKTRED Never understood the hate the combat gets. I sort of get it if you've only played on lower difficulties where you never need to prep, but playing on Death March and being forced to delve into alchemy makes the combat really fun imo and above all, IMMERSIVE
