I didn't realise face ID was used for so much! She makes such a good point. Imagine being assaulted and your face is swollen but you can't open your phone to call for help. This could literally happen to anyone at any time without warning 💔

there was also the case a few years back of people with traditional face tattoos in new zealand not being able to use face id at all, like it just wouldnt recognise their face as a face, simply because they have sacred traditional tattoos

why are ppl confused about Face ID in the replies?? Apple Face ID is isn’t the only one we encounter. kiosks at receptions now use Face ID. And every website is telling us to use biometric passkey instead of passwords

I’m confused, when Face ID fails isn’t there always the code fallback..? Apart from that, I do feel for her. But this is not an issue that is novel to AI. Identifying people has always been difficult, there’s always been edge cases, and there’s always been identity theft.

Black and brown people have been complaining about the exact same thing!!! A black woman did an experiment where she put on a white mask, the AI recognized the mask as HER, but it didn't recognize her ACTUAL face!!!!

In the last 3 years, I developed 3 moles in my face, and my eyes turned from amber greenish to dark grey after some eye infection issues. My own phone doesn’t recognize me in past pics, I can’t even imagine how stressful it is for people with bigger facial changes, AI is a mess

Usually people just upload a new set of photos for this. They take a new ID pic and re-calibrate their phone’s Face ID. No system that I’ve heard of requires specific facial expressions so I don’t see how updating her profile in the system should be an issue for her?

@nevaeh_infinity I got pulled out of line at the border bc the computer said my face didn’t match my passport photo. I was doing a small smile in the photo and they told me I had to make that face if I wanted the computer to recognize me. Like???? That’s not a smart system

I couldn't get past an age verification the other day I just gave up. My face won't register as a adult to AI. No other option either just AI either I'm tired man

@Boon_doggl Even anything requiring a cellphone. So many stories of old people unable to access things like parking or healthcare if they don’t have a young relative to help them. Legislate the level of person-based service that any business or gov’t service has to provide — accessibility!
