The Writing was bad the Dialogue was Cringe Jar Jar Binks Happened no hate on the actor he didn't deserve hatred for him portraying that character but there are 2 Redeeming Qualities for The Prequel Trilogy John Williams's Legendary Score and The Lightsaber Duels are Pure Epic

@FantasyGalaxies Twas an answer to your question. There are things I like in all three films somethings I even adore (John Williams brilliant score) but as a whole I don’t like those movies at all. And I agree it’s fun to discuss and not everything is for everyone.

Before there’s two and a half hours of bullshit before this, and even if this fight has good choreography these characters don’t know each other and you know nothing about them as people so it’s hard to get invested.

What do we learn about Darth Maul in this movie other than “evil looking guy with a double lightsaber”?

@FantasyGalaxies Not every character in a fantasy movie needs to have a complicated back story. He was a Sith. Apprentice to Palpatine. He looked cool as shit and the fight was awesome. That’s all we needed to know 🤷

@FantasyGalaxies There’s a difference between “complicated” and “nothing at all”. Maul has no backstory, no motivation, no personality, he barely has any lines. Vader in the first movie has a fully established motivation and backstory. And it’s not complicated at all.

Because they were trapped in nostalgia. They were no longer looking to be amazed by new things the way they were as children; they came in with preconceived ideas and compared everything to what they had experienced before, instead of appreciating it for what it was.

Imagine a boxing match, except the fighters barely ever actually went to punch their opponent in the face or chest, and instead just constantly hit and jabbed at eachother’s gloves.

Obi Wan began his Jedi career as a headstrong mediocre/marginal student headed to work in the Jedi Ag corps until Qui Gon took a chance on him. he isn't on anyone's top tier power lists and despite those humble beginnings he winds up quietly becoming 1 of the greatest Jedi.

Prequels are terrible. Bad writing. Bad acting. Lightsaber scenes were mostly good. Windu and crew vs Palpatine wasn't great. Two powerful Jedi killed easily. Looked terrible.

And 2002. They were all so disappointing. Star Wars changed everything. In hindsight I wish Lucas had done what he'd threatened to do, and leave it at three.

Oh sure compared to the shit pushed out now 1,2, and 3 can look like Oscar bait sometimes. But in the late 90’s and 2000’s people were more accustomed to slam dunk acting, writing, and dialogue. You had the Sopranos, The Matrix, Dark Knight, Breaking Bad and The Wire as some examples that come to mind as really great products of the time.

Compare this frenetic disorderly hyper activity to the lightsaber fights from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. There is no comparison. The originals are iconic, the prequel ones are eminently forgettable.

It wasnt the lightsaber choreography that was called bad. Its some of the best we've ever seen. It was the dialogue and how it was written that often fell flat and the acting was awkward at times. That being said it didnt sink it for me and I enjoyed the prequels, Revenge of the Sith being my favorite.

Don't let revisionists twist it: Episode 3 was praised by basically everyone when it came out. The hype was astronomical both before and after release. There were people who seriously believe George intentionally made TPM and AOTC bad just to hit it out of the park with Ep 3.

It was never the sword fights or the score. If you can post decent lengths of dialog, well crafted plot, or stretches of solid acting that do not have the first two in it, we can talk.

Because you have to watch the rest of the film to get to this sequence

Star Wars changed from low fantasy to high fantasy, from grit and determination at the edges of the empire to whatever this is.

Obi Wan knows his student so well. he knows he's impatient and prone to frustration. he knows he's aggressive and offensively gifted, so he maximizes the use of Soresu to allow Anakin to tire himself out and get frustrated at the same time. he defeats Anakin/Vader 3/4 duels.

Because it’s so fast and over choreographed that it lacks any tension. It’s as if Lucas decided that since the ending was predetermined, that he’d just make a music video out of it (which is partly true since they released a music video of Anakin Vs Obi Wan using a lot of the footage from the duel) This is a fight for Anakin’s soul and it’s treated like something out of a Michael Bay movie. It was all flash, no heart. When they started swinging from cables, I checked out.

I didn't love Episode I the first time I saw it (opening night) but after watching it 12 more times in the theater I did. Episode II was great except for the cringe awkward Anakin/Padme scenes. Episode III was over the top and incredible, especially the intro scene.

0 emotional stakes. People walked into rooms and flatly stated plot points for the audience: “Remember he cut off your arm and now you want revenge”🤦‍♂️ OT had character stakes on the line in every duel. Not just pointless flips. One thing the ST got right was bringing that back.

No one called this part bad, they called the depiction of Anakin falling to the Darkside was bad, which it was. The Clone Wars series did this a million times better than the movie ever could, 2 hours wasn't long enough to show his descent in a convincing manner. That was the biggest criticism of ROTS but everything else was great.

Because we grew up on actual classic movies. Duel of the fates was a highlight of a dogshit movies, and Sith was the least shit out of the prequels, but just because the prequels are Oscar winning masterpieces compared to 'ModERm aUdieNce' movies? doesn't make them great.

The anti-jar jar edits made the films much better.

These fights are shit, being fast doesn't change that.
