I got Roblox's move/rotate/resize tools running in a LocalScript. They're fully typechecked and use ReactLua as a rendering frontend.

For what it does, it's reasonably simple to wire up.

I did this because no one else should have to do this ever again, and also because I need raw build tool handles for the plugin I'm working on.

The code is on GitHub here: I will publish them as wally packages later today. For now they only need 3 dependencies: ReactRoblox = "jsdotlua/[email protected]" Signal = "sleitnick/[email protected]" React = "jsdotlua/[email protected]"

this running as a localscript means any game on roblox can ship studio-quality building tools to players the fact that this isn't a first-party API is wild

Also, fully typechecked in this case means more like 99% typechecked. There are cases where unfortunately I couldn’t avoid using the ‘any’ type, or I didn’t think it was worth the trouble.

One of my favorite things to see on the Roblox community is people just messing with studio and making it like 50 times better despite me not knowing a lick of lua or just anything to do with studio
