Really love how Gennedy Tartakovsky chose a temple on Yavin IV as the prime location for Anakin’s lightsaber duel with Asajj Ventress in the 2003 Clone Wars micro-series. Not only is the animation nothing short of incredible, but I really love how a location that further pushed Anakin towards the Dark Side was the same one that, decades later, would be a defining moment for Luke’s journey in The Light.

Captain Howzer's speech from this episode of The Bad Batch is genuinely one of the best moments in Star Wars animation and isn't discussed nearly as much as it should be. Still gives me goosebumps years later. Watching all of the other Clone Troopers drop their shields, despite knowing the consequences of not following Imperial orders, is so emotionally powerful. An excellent reminder that these were soldiers made to protect The Republic, and never meant to serve an Empire.

Star Wars - The Ghost's Apprentice (Fan Film) I'm so beyond excited to finally share this with you all. I've spent the last two weeks working non-stop, everyday to make this film. I truly hope you enjoy it. 😊 Star Wars was one of the biggest inspirations for me as a kid growing up to become a filmmaker. I watched the original trilogy so much the VHS tape was worn thin. A dream of mine to this day, is to bring a Star Wars story to the big screen, but this project is the first step to that hopeful future. I set out to do this project entirely in Veo 2, but I genned so much that I actually genned out my early access Veo 2 subscription (thank you lightsaber fight 😂). A massive thank you to S.A.V for doing the saber VFX and helping me complete the ending sequence in the final twilight hours. Would not have hit the deadline without you. Another massive thank you to @artisdead_ai for listening to my ideas on this project and providing feedback and to push me to keep moving and genning as I went crazy at times with gens not working the way I wanted too. Without these two guys, this project wouldn't exist. I'm so happy with how this one turned out and I'm so thankful to each and every one of you who continues to support me on this wild journey. STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

I spoke with Prof. Arora (Pooja Arora) about how the postwar norm against aggressive war drove decades of declining violence—and how today’s “might makes right” politics, embraced by leaders like Putin and Trump, now threaten that hard-won peace. Me: The norm that countries do not go to war except in self-defense and with authorization of the UN Security Council has been rejected both by Putin and Trump. Of course, there were often violations of that in the past, including the United States invading Iraq, for example. So it’s not as if that norm was always followed. But still, it was a change from hundreds—maybe thousands—of years of history, and that norm, I think, does deserve credit for the decline of interstate and great-power war since World War II. In my books The Better Angels of Our Nature and Enlightenment Now, I’ve plotted the rate of battle deaths since 1946. I don’t know if my image is reversed or not—whether it goes left to right from your point of view—but it goes down. It has ups and downs, and in the last couple of years, because of the wars you pointed to—Ukraine, Gaza, and even more so East Africa, in Sudan and Ethiopia—there has been an uptick. Still, that uptick has not wiped out all the progress we’ve made. We are still at a more peaceful time than in the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s. We’re back to around the late 1990s level. But it has gotten somewhat worse, and it could get worse still if that norm is permanently shattered. It is certainly being threatened. We don’t know whether it will reassert itself—given that Ukraine has been very costly to Russia, and given that Donald Trump says a lot of things he doesn’t do. I still think it’s unlikely the United States will apply military force in Greenland. But there’s no question the norm is being threatened, and I do think it’s a serious risk to world peace. Pooja Arora: It just appears that realism is back with a bang, and that “might makes right” may win. Me: Well, it is back, certainly. And the Trump administration is very explicit about that. They have basically said “might is right.” The question is, will that prevail? It might. On the other hand, there were good reasons to have the liberal international order—namely, that it prevented war. And wars, as the bumper sticker from my childhood said, are not healthy for children or other living things. There are huge disadvantages to war. Countries get tired of them. People revolt against governments that engage in them. We’re seeing that in Iran right now. One grievance is that the ayatollahs have wasted national resources on proxy wars across the Middle East at the expense of their people. There could very well be a backlash in the United States if it gets involved in wars and American soldiers start losing their lives. So yes, there is a definite movement toward what’s called realism. I think it’s a bad term, because I don’t think it’s particularly realistic. It’s actually quite realistic to believe that avoiding stupid wars is a much better path to prosperity and well-being. Still, cynical, zero-sum competition is being embraced by major world leaders. The question is whether the disadvantages will ultimately bring the liberal international order back. The European Union is still committed to it, as is much of the rest of the world, East Asia. So it’s not dead—but it is certainly threatened.

Since people keep asking, here are my current thoughts on Star Wars Outlaws. I’m liking it a lot so far. Some of you asked about bugs or glitches, and honestly, I haven’t run into anything. Looks like Ubisoft actually fixed the issues the game had. Visually it’s really nice, they did a solid job there. If you’re into Star Wars as an IP, the game feels pretty enjoyable. Most of what I’ve played until now leans toward stealth, so I guess that’s one of the main focuses. It’s not super punishing either. I got caught a few times, but the game didn’t instantly throw me out. You usually get a chance to fix the situation, even if that probably doesn’t work in every scenario. I also like that the game sometimes puts you in situations where you can lean toward one Syndicate or another. It’s not a fixed choice, but depending on what you do, your reputation shifts and you get different advantages. It fits the world really well. With the reduced price it has on Steam right now, I’d say it’s worth trying. These are just my thoughts after almost six hours of playtime. I still have more to see, and I’ll share more impressions as I go. The footage is also part of a new idea I’m trying. I want to start using video instead of images so people can get a better feel for how the game actually plays.

In 2003, a 14 year old in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada filmed himself swinging a golf ball retriever like a lightsaber in his high school studio. It was never meant for anyone to see. Classmates found the tape, uploaded it, and a blogger named Andy Baio reposted it on his website and gave it the name that stuck: Star Wars Kid. It became arguably the first major viral video on the internet, viewed hundreds of millions of times and parodied on shows like South Park, Arrested Development, and The Colbert Report. Ghyslain Raza was not in on the joke. People online told him to end his life. Local media tracked him at school and tried to photograph him through his family’s window blinds. He left school, was privately tutored, and needed psychiatric care. His family sued his classmates and settled out of court. He then went almost completely silent for nearly 20 years. He was never even a Star Wars fan. In that silence, he earned degrees in civil and common law from McGill University and began pursuing a doctorate at Queen’s University. In 2022, he agreed to a documentary, his first time speaking publicly. As part of the filming, Andy Baio, who had gone on to become CTO of Kickstarter, sat down with Raza face to face in Portland. He told him “I have enormous regret about posting the video.” The classmates who originally uploaded it have never apologised. I effing love Tucker Carlson, like a trusted family member. Honestly. I came across his show on Rumble during Covid. Most people only vaguely know who he is in the UK. We can’t get Fox, etc. I knew something was up with Covid more or less straight away Not just because hiding from it didn’t make any sense (rule always been, if it’s not a killer, you spread it to kill it off) nor because the instructions were ridiculous (in the UK we were told to wash our hands for 20 seconds, or two rounds of the song, “happy birthday to you” - like we were retarded and neither knew how to wash our or how long 20 seconds was). But because I was looking at the people on the TV who had died of COVID early on and they were all overweight or old. Every one of them were. No one on any media here (mainstream or otherwise) was talking about it, so I looked to the US and found Tucker. He was a life line early on. A voice of sanity in a world that was clearly going around the bend. I came to X for the first time ever (any social media actually) when he was fired from Fox. And waited for news. The minute he launched TCN I subscribed. Even though I only ever watch TCN on Wednesdays because all the other shows are out on Spotify quite quick. But I’m happy to support people I appreciate (we all should if we can to be fair). This is Tucker talking about a couple of Antony Faucci’s personal diary entries. And it’s pure TV gold. There are no airs and graces with Tucker. He says it exactly how he sees it, unless (and this is an important quality I unfortunately do not possess) tact and good manners dictate otherwise. This is authenticity. That’s why so many people love him, and also why so many terrible people hate him. Bad people, low, deceitful, treacherous people, fake people, hate nothing more than honesty. And they hate no honesty more than honesty that comes from a place of decency, morality or love for your fellow man. You can’t imitate what Tucker has, and you can’t beat it either. He’s like Obi Wan Kenobi in the first Star Wars (I’m not a Star Wars, or sci-fi nut, just of that age) when Darth Vader strikes him down; if they were to destroy him they would only make him stronger. And they know it. Same can be said for Candace Owens. As much as the demons among us would love to destroy all dissenting voices, there are some that they know they can’t. This is what I believe is the best path forwards for Gaza and the Middle East. I ran out of time in this video to talk about Jared Kushner and the threat to this potential solution of Israeli billionaires and influence co-opting and corrupting this plan. There’s obviously a ton of nuance. But some version of this is the most optimistic hopeful outcome I can see. Do you guys think I’m missing something? As always I welcome real debate and rational contributions. To be extra clear: I do NOT want ethnic cleansing of Palestine I do NOT want Israel in charge of anything I do NOT want American boots on the ground any more than absolutely necessary to effect a version of this plan. I DO want peace and prosperity for Palestine. I DO want to stop funding Israel completely. I DO want Bibi to stand trial for war crimes and spend the rest of his life in a prison receiving the exact same hospitality Israelis have shown to Palestinian prisoners for the last 100 years. If you know what I mean. Hopefully that clears things up.
