little go beep came out in 2003, over 50 years after wile e’s debut. idk why they tried to retcon his reasoning for not speaking considering they made a reference to the “super genius” term, which is what wile e calls himself when he talks.

My best theory is fuck canon. You want Coyote to be mute because he had a dad tell him not to talk? Cool. You want Road Runner to talk because he does in the BeepBeep comics? Cool. You want them to be cute buddies like BB Builders? Cool. It's literally whatever lol

I have a better theory: alongside with his father's advise, Wile E. is selectively mute But in the shorts you mentioned, he's talking, sure, but not in front of Roadie. He's talking to us, the audience. Him only talking in front of Bugs can still be a thing without him catching

I like to think that he eventually broke free of his Dad’s rule and learned how to talk, but he doesn’t do it in front of the Road Runner because deep down he still feels shame, like he hasn’t earned it yet. Maybe he’ll slowly start talking after finally realizing they’re friends

I don’t consider the ones where he does speak to be canon either, just because he was intentionally made to be a non verbal character and I personally think how he’s commonly portrayed pays more respect to chuck jones. Plus him being voiceless is cuter in my opinion

The thing is that if people want to use it as canon for their fics/hcs it is totally fine; the thing I want people to understand is that "canon" and "lore" in the Looney Tunes is only a suggestion, and not a hard and fast rule. Their reality is what the creator decides it to be.

My own theory: he slowly stopped talking due to being out in the desert on his own with only one companion, and because he saw it as a waste of mental energy he figured he should be using to think of his next grand plan. The few times he speaks is before he commits to silence.

I feel like the father thing is a fun gag, but not an actual lore. I highly doubt it’s part of Wile E.’s bible. Road Runner is a force of nature. Bugs is a clever trickster. Wile E. wouldn’t feel any smarter than Elmer if he stayed silent in most of Bugs’s shorts.

Sometimes i prefer he didn't actually speak it was someone else talking for him and he always lip syncing whenever 😭 but mostly he uses signs it would be silly thought i still like selectively mute wile

I have this headcannon that Wile realized that his father’s tactic wasn’t fair and after some therapy, he decided to peruse his love for science instead of regular hunting like his father wanted.

He read a fic where the author says it's because of Bugs logic. He can speak because the cartoon Logic of Bugs is too powerfull so why not ?
