I HATE THIS, and tbh i blame certain science communicators for this swing of the pendulum DINOSAURS COULD ROAR based on the evidence we have not every dinosaur but ones usinglong distance communication (like large theropods) likely DID roar similar to big cat or elephants

i saw one communicator say that the preservation of a larynx means they didnt have a syrinx WHEN THE PAPER SUGGESTS THE FUCKING OPPOSITE SOME OF YALL CANT READ THE PAPER TALKS ABOUT HOW ITS MORE SIMILAR TO BIRD LARYNX THAN TO CROCODILE LARYNX

btw birds DO HAVE A LARYNX its just not producing sound, its more of a modifier organ which we know some dinosaurs might have had like hadrosaur boney crests or more speculatively ceratopsian big ass nasal champers

You posted it too but yeah was gunna say was pretty much put to bed when we found a complex bird-like larynx in an ankylosaur (and I beleive another ornithischian too?? But I cant remember which one)

and even if thats convergent a transition had to happen somewhere i suspect it evolved for long range communication as the deeper the sound producing organ the louder & deeper like how big cats lower their larynx into their chest many bird extended their trachea

Pulaosaurus was the other one

makes me wanna finish that torvosaurus model and do some sound design for it!

Exactly. They suddenly shifted to dinosaurs basically being silent. Can you imagine a territorial dispute between two tyrannosaurs? It would be deafening. The bellow of a large titanosaur? Or an heard of hadrosaurs? The era of the dinosaurs would have been anything but silent

Yeah no that’s just straight up a dinosaur sound effect

Reysuka made a post a week ago abt how no dinosaur has a larynx and I wanna make an Insta reel abt it but I also never want to deal with her again

DO IT and ask her wtf the larynx bones in ankylosaurs are then like wtf is she talking about??? thats obviously wrong?

Honestly I’m not gonna mention her given how frustrating she was to handle. Might just say "some popular content creators". Leave an insult on the ground and someone might pick it up

Personally I think of it more as “dinosaurs likely didn’t make roars exactly like they do in the movies” ie: jurassic franchise and other stock dinosaur sounds. which got swung extremely far in the opposite direction.

I always assume trex would have a very low roar, something like when a planes engines start

i understand where ur coming from but it doesn't seem logical to me that dinosaurs would roar, roaring is a mammal thing and reptiles dont make sounds like that.. if your using the video as an example they arent roaring its just bellows and growls

You gotta be kidding me A Roar is not a scientifically limited term Non-mammals can roar

after years of every single paleo tuber saying, that dinosaurs didn't roar, suddenly everyone is "no. dinosaurs can roar"

We still aren't sure as it's just one fossil that we may never find again. Ankylosaurs probably did have bird like larynx but what about dromeosaurs or tyrannosaurus?

Dromaeosaurs I am unsure Tyrannosaurs would 10000% need some form of long distance communication Oh look, big cats and elephants are right there as examples

Diictodon 的头像

Big cats yes but Elephants rumble in such a low frequency that we can't detect. And they rather use the ground not the air. They can hear from their feet. Idk if tyrannosaurus did the same thing as elephant's but I'm very sure not all of them needed that.

Also I don't really see that tyrannosaurus like T-rex or any bird as a matter of fact could replicate what elephant's do with their feet.

Elephants don’t make the sound with their feet 🤦‍♀️ they listen with the pads of their feet which Trex probably could do because IT ALSO HAD LARGE PADDED FEET

Diictodon 的头像
Diictodon1 个月前

So they didn't roar. They rumbled. And no I didn't say they make sound with their feet I said they "hear" with their feet. Big cats also have padded feet, but they don't use them to hear through the ground for a mate or other reasons.

These are roars And I say it’s likely many large dinosaurs would have converged on this type Of thing as a result of their size and also the need to communicate long distances WHICH IS WHAT THESE ARE GFOR

I would say the second video is more of grumble or rumble but whatever. It would be pretty interesting or plausible that large dinosaur's could rumble but they're technically bird's. Birds and mammals are completely different.

Did dinosaurs really exist? Can we really be certain that dinosaurs actually existed or are the fossils discovered remains of other species? During the Long Gilded Age in the Amerikkkas, which stretched from the end of Reconstruction (1877) to the start of the Great Depression (1900,) financial elites like J.P. Morgan and industrialists like Andrew Carnegie rose to enormous power and influence. They oversaw the transition of America’s political economy from an unruly and highly competitive form of proprietary capitalism to a more managed economy dominated by large corporate firms. This was precisely when dinosaurs from the American West became an icon of science, and the transition to corporate capitalism affected the practice of vertebrate paleontology in surprisingly concrete and far-reaching ways. Not only did dinosaurs reflect the obsession with all things big and powerful that prevailed at the time, but the science of paleontology itself was profoundly influenced by the creation of large, corporately organised, and bureaucratically managed museums of natural history. Sir Richard Owen, a Fellow of the Royal Society, coined the term “Dinosauria” in 1841-1842 meaning “terrible lizard” or “terrible reptile” to describe fossilized reptile bones found earlier. While the term and identification as a unique group happened in the 1840s, the Bible does not explicitly mention “dinosaurs,” but it describes massive creatures—specifically “Behemoth” and “Leviathan” in Job 40-41—that some interpretations suggest could be dinosaurs of sorts. These creatures are depicted as powerful, reptilian-like beasts that coexisted with humans, featuring prominently in Job and mentioned as sea monsters in Psalms. Dragons are also mentioned numerous times in the bible. Many dinosaur enthusiasts like to remind us that the birds flying around today are distant cousins of these same dinosaurs, purely based on skeletal similarities, but what really is the truth?
