I have read several articles on the new framework trade agreement between the United States and the European Union. From what I could gather, the overall feeling, at least in the EU, is that the agreement is better than it could have been but worse than it should have... been. There will be a 15% tariff on all European goods imported in the US. European steel and aluminum exports will still be tariffed at 50%. Additionally, the EU commits to purchase $750 billion worth of US oil, gas, nuclear fuel etc. over three years. A further $600 billion investment will be made by the EU to the US, including military equipment purchases. This also means that EU will be able to replace Russian energy with US energy. President von der Leyen said that the agreement was "a good deal" and would bring stability and predictability with it. Other European politicians have been less supportive. German industrial area will be hit hard by the tariffs, its representatives said. An important outcome of the deal is the end of uncertainty that made global markets more volatile.
