It was a revealing experience for me during the visits, last week, to Gombe, Katsina, and Sokoto States, where we had the opportunity to witness firsthand the challenges and progress in Nigeria’s healthcare system. Meeting with the Governors and key stakeholders, we reinforced our commitment to maternal and child mortality reduction, hospital revitalization, and expanding access to essential health services. In Gombe State Government of Gombe State, I commended HE Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya leadership in immunization and healthcare financing while highlighting how the $1 billion Project Hope Project HOPE will complement state-level investments, ensuring sustainable health outcomes at the grassroots. In Katsina State Katsina State Government, I underscored the urgency of tackling maternal mortality, where 15 local government areas contribute significantly to the national burden. Through the MNH-MaMII Initiative, NHIA NIGERIA, we aim to work with the state to ensure that every pregnant woman receives the care she needs. In Sokoto State Sokoto Government House, where maternal mortality stands at 977 per 100,000 live births, collaboration is key. With the Emergency Medical System #NEMSAS and ambulance scheme, expanded primary healthcare revitalization, and routine immunization efforts, we are ensuring that no woman or child is left behind. Across these visits, we reaffirmed our whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, working in alignment with H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (#NHSRII). I’d like to thank my colleagues from NPHCDA led by its Executive Director, Dr. Muyi Aina, Dr. Muyi Aina, our partner, Chris Elias Chris Elias, President, Global Development, Gates Foundation, Gates Foundation and other partner organizations for their support and collaboration. Busia County County Government of Busia 040 Department of Health and Sanitation should address the gaps and challenges that exist in the devolution of healthcare services to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their location, have access to adequate healthcare facilities and services. This is Siunga Dispensary, literally in the bush, isolated, neglected and abandoned.

Nobody should have to travel miles just to see a doctor. For too long, many communities have lived with that frustration, where basic healthcare felt out of reach. We are changing that by building 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) across Enugu, ensuring every ward has a modern health facility close to home, FREE OF CHARGE for our people, and supported by a digital system that keeps patient records safe and accessible. Each centre will run with 24-hour solar power and running water, with 3,380 beds across the state, at least 13 per facility. To support our frontline workers, 2-bedroom apartments are being built at every PHC, because when healthcare workers are well supported, patients receive better care. The goal is to have everything operational by the end of May. Ndi Enugu, we are closing the gap in healthcare accessibility. Tomorrow is here.

The Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the right to quality, affordable healthcare. In line with the President's directive and our commitment to the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Agenda, all outpatient services in every health facility must now be provided free of charge. Any facility that continues to charge Kenyans for outpatient services is in violation of this directive and the Constitution and will face firm legal consequences.
