We recently startled a crow in our birdbath when we stepped outside; my fiancé went to refill the birdbath and discovered a very tiny gopher tortoise in the bottom of the birdbath! The crows like to dunk their lunch in the water. He was able to rescue the tiny tortoise and put in back in the woods. Gopher tortoises are endangered and protected by law, so we hope he lives a long time. I totally get this gentleman’s happiness at helping the tiny, defenseless young one out. 😊
