Under the current NELFUND policy, repayment doesn’t even start immediately after NYSC; it begins two years after completing NYSC, giving graduates time to find employment. If a beneficiary is still unemployed, they’re expected to update NELFUND with their employment status, and they won’t be required to start repaying until they secure a job. Once employed, the employer deducts 10% of the beneficiary’s monthly salary and remits it to NELFUND. The loan is completely interest-free, so you’re only paying back what you borrowed. How long it takes to finish repayment depends on your salary and the amount you borrowed. Someone earning a good income could clear it in a year or two, while those earning less or who borrowed more may take longer.
