I just left a briefing with important updates to share with you from the Executive on the ongoing snow emergency as we deal with freezing temperatures. While I appreciate the hard work of District workers, the government’s response has fallen far short of what DC residents deserve. I know...

@NFTC_News There’s not a safe way to board the bus. Most of the DC stops have mountains of ice..

Are any of the hundreds of National Guard in the city going to be working on this emergency?

@maustermuhle What about sidewalks? Any plan to make them more passable? Can’t go anywhere without trekking through mush

Please fine the businesses that aren’t shoveling sidewalks and deploy public works to address islands/intersections. All the hard work @wmata took on to get stuff running quickly is wasted because it’s not safe for folks to walk to and from stations!!

Well if y’all wouldn’t have installed these dumb ass bike lanes, it would be easier to remove the snow

There are approximately 2,000 National Guard still deployed in DC and about 1,100 miles of road. If each soldier was responsible for digging out a quarter mile of road per day, our streets would have been clear by yesterday.

This has been the worst snow storm response I’ve seen since I moved here in 2009. Absolutely insane the streets have still not been plowed. @MayorBowser @ankitjaindc

Is @MayorBowser working with federal partners to call up @DCNationalGuard & partner with @nationalguard stationed in District, bringing in heavy equipment for snow & ice removal?

I’m so tired of hearing about the snow heroes. I want the government to do their job as opposed to outsource it to volunteers. I’m sure they are great but come on now

I spent $98 on an Uber to IAD last night for an international flight. Why? Because I could not use the sidewalks with my needed luggage to go two to three blocks to the metro station. I have easily done this in the past with these two large bags and prefer to spend $6.95 on WMATA

Don’t accept ineptitude. Demand a city infrastructure that works. The city is failing us.

You won’t do squat. The District crapped the bed just like Arlington County. Sidewalks and crosswalks are blocked. Unsatisfactory. This isn’t the first time. I happens every time with a few inches of snow. And will last for weeks. GFY.

Okay this is the first acknowledgment that DC gov didn’t do its job well but there should be a review of $ that went out for snow prep where constituents didn’t receive services. Money should be clawed back from vendors who failed to do what they were paid for

Thanks for this information - one of the only helpful posts I’ve seen from local officials. I went to sign up to volunteer but I live in Ward 2 (Logan Circle) and the equipment pick up locations are all too far for me to get to safely. Are there other ways I can help?

Much more govt. coordination is necessary. The sidewalks in front of Francis Field/Dog Park and Francis School were cleared and salted by Tuesday, but not Francis Pool. Washington Circle, National Park Service is untouched despite being a major walkway.

Great but you have lived here a long time. You know how bad snow removal has always been. It’s no surprise to anyone who has lived here for a while. If you were really good at your job we wouldn’t be having this issue.

***SIGNIFICANT SNOW EVENT FRIDAY*** 2ND CALL UPDATED MAP TO INCLUDE 10"+ TOTALS Merry Christmas everyone! I've had some time to review the new data and the storm is basically behaving just as I initially thought. There are a few revisions to my 1st call from yesterday morning to account for HIGHER SNOW RATIOS over NW NJ/Hudson Valley and to move the 6-10" zone into NYC. ZONE 1 – 6–10" OF SNOW This is the zone where cold air damming will be most prevalent, allowing snow to remain all snow for the duration of the event. Expect higher snow ratios, which could allow many areas to push toward double-digit totals, especially under any persistent banding. The pink area of 10"+ accounts for a MUCH higher snow ratio at the start and duration of the storm. This will allow for higher elevations to see many locations pick up 10"+ ZONE 2 – 4–6" OF SNOW This zone will likely start with heavy, wet snow, before transitioning to a lighter, fluffier snowfall as colder air works in. Some compaction is expected with lower snow ratios at times, but additional snow and mesoscale banding could still drive totals toward or above 6" in spots. ZONE 3 – 2–4" WITH MIXING This zone remains VERY uncertain. Everything south of 195 in NJ has a high chance to flip to heavy sleet and rain during convective bandings. I could make a strong argument that cold air advection dominates a tad longer creating an over performer, keeping this mostly snow with sleet mixed in and allowing totals to reach 4–6". However, low-level warm air transport on an easterly wind may introduce sleet, especially along the Jersey Shore (east of GSP) would eat into accumulations. I’ll be watching trends closely as this is shaping up to be a sharp cutoff storm where small shifts could have big impacts.

⚠️I’ve been watching this Storm like a HAWK. I know this setup inside and out. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. This Winter Storm is unlike anything I've seen in long time. ⬇️ Here are the facts: 🌎 This is an absolutely MASSIVE storm, spanning over 2,000 miles. Snow and Ice will be falling in Mexico at the same time it’s falling in New York. 🌨️ Widespread Snow Totals of 8–12 inches or more will bury large portions of the country, from Oklahoma City through New York City. Some locations will get EVEN MORE Snow, approaching a foot and a half of in spots. 🧊 Catastrophic Ice Accumulations of up to 1 inch or MORE are possible in parts of the South, enough to cripple infrastructure and overwhelm the power grid. 🥶The combination of Heavy Ice and prolonged Frigid Temperatures creates a dangerous situation, especially in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and parts of the western Carolinas, where power outages are likely. 🧊 SEVERAL inches of Sleet may also fall in a narrow corridor from Oklahoma through New Jersey, piling up on roads like a mega hailstorm. 🚗 Travel will become difficult to IMPOSSIBLE, and in some areas remain impassable for days, due to deep Snow, Ice, and Sleet. ⏱️ This is a LONG DURATION Winter Storm: ⬇️Friday: Worst conditions begin in Texas ➡️Saturday: Impacts spread into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys ➡️Sunday: The storm shifts east into the Southeast, Mid Atlantic, and Northeast, where heavy Snow is likely This post is not meant to scare you. It’s meant to prepare you. This is a weekend to hunker down, bundle up, find a good book, and STAY HOME. 👊 I’m with you all the way, my brotheren

Elon Musk on Grok: “I think an AI that is sort of SpaceX’s baby will be a very good AI. I think SpaceX is a collection of some of the very best humans on Earth, both in capability and morality and goodness, and I think we want to have an AI that is born of that capability and that morality and that goodness. I think that’s very, very important. So I’d like to encourage people to help out, actually, with the AI hardware on the ground and the AI software and, of course, with the AI satellites. Solar is going to be a very important part of that. The TerraFab will be a very important part of that, but we must also succeed on the software front, and we’re going to be training Grok on the sum total of all SpaceX information. So in a way, it will be trained on you. You will effectively be the parents of the AI. It will inherit your thoughts and ideas and beliefs, and I think that’s a good thing. So, yeah, we’ve got to win here on the AI hardware and the AI software. That maybe is the most important message. I think that is actually the most important message I wanted to convey today is that we must win on AI because the future is overwhelmingly AI and robots. So we won’t ultimately be able to control the AI. It’ll be too smart for that. But just like if you have a child that is a super genius child, you can still instill in that child the values and beliefs that you think are good and right. And so that’s why it’s incredibly important that we succeed with Grok. So, yeah, well, Grok 4.5 you’ve tried probably. We’ve got 4.6 coming out in about a week. And then 4.7 should be really pretty special. So I’d like to encourage everyone at SpaceX to use AI and to make it better.”
