At this point, fleeting cold air on Tuesday will limit how much snow can actually accumulate — but several key questions with this system still remain. Here’s my early breakdown: 🟩 Zone 1 – ALL RAIN (Green Zone) Climatology + temperature profiles strongly favor a pure rain event for Coastal NJ and Long Island. 🩷 Zone 2 – SNOW ➜ MIX ➜ RAIN (Pink Zone) This will be the trickiest area. Some cold air will be available early, allowing wet snow to mix with rain going to pure rain. Here's how the GRAF sees the TWO storms hitting the DC region on Tuesday-Wednesday this week. -Has snow starting 12-1pm in DC. -Note temperatures...likely above freezing at onset. We will "lose" some snow initially to ground melt. Recall the January storm, we had VERY cold temperatures leading up to it. Not quite this time. -I still worry the northern end of the I-81 corridor (Winchester up to Hagerstown zone) could underperform due to lighter precip and "mountain dry slotting" you can see this model, like the HRRR, trying to pick up on that a bit. -Snow exits around/after midnight in immediate DC area. We're then dry most of the first half of Wednesday. -Second system approached Wednesday afternoon. This one has much warmer mid-levels, and should be a moderate to heavy rain event for DC. -Cold may lag at the surface west of town. Some freezing rain may mix in, some icing is possible in higher elevations. -Rains will help wash away a lot of Tuesday's snowfall. This Winter Storm is unlike anything I've seen in long time. ⬇️ Here are the facts: 🌎 This is an absolutely MASSIVE storm, spanning over 2,000 miles. Snow and Ice will be falling in Mexico at the same time it’s falling in New York. 🌨️ Widespread Snow Totals of 8–12 inches or more will bury large portions of the country, from Oklahoma City through New York City. ❄️ By definition this will be a Bomb cyclone, and it now looks to become a paralyzing coastal #blizzard for New England, Long Island, and perhaps coastal New Jersey and New York City. Many will receive over a foot of snow Sunday into Monday. Coastal gusts in SE New England may reach #hurricane force 75mph+. This is the latest Hi-Res GRAF (IBM) available as of 4pm Friday. In my opinion it’s likely too far north and west with the heaviest snow, so take snow totals N/W of NYC with a grain of salt, for now, until we get closer to the storm. Still coastal locations in Long Island and SE New England will likely see 1-2 feet! One more note: I love snow, so for me, no snow is too much despite what the legend says :) ❄️ #snow #storm Tri-State Weather Adam tocksin

Big time snow storm for many of these areas Saturday of Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Many of these areas well over a year's average worth of snow. Would be worried for a potential dry slot around Raleigh though between the upper level low and developing surface low. Highest confidence is along the I-95 corridor beaches for big snow totals!
