I like and support Dan Campbell, but he has to quit doing dumb things. He did an onside kick down 10 with 12 minutes to go. Onside kicks have a 7% chance of success.

That was bad, but even worse was his clock management at the end. Not calling timeout with 2:40 remaining after stopping the Bills on 3rd down, allowing the clock to go all the way to 2:03 before the FG. Terrible waste of 40 seconds that they needed.

Hell naw. We definitely didn't watch the same game. Great try on the onside kick. It was early enough to try. Defense not stop the Bills. No way Detroit getting a 3 and out. We needed the ball

His defense only stopped the other team once so a defensive stop had a 6% chance of success SHUT THE FUCK UP

Absolutely correct. Campbell is not a genius, he is a motivator. He thinks he's going to predict the bounce of a football!!! Breaking: The Detroit Lions are not going to the Super Bowl with injury devastated defense. Too bad, all the pieces were in place.

The Lions didn't stop Buffalo all game. His players on D were dropping and he took a shot. You're wrong on this one

He didn't use time outs. That was much dumber.

His team is too good to take unnecessary gambles. It's gonna cost them in a critical situation.

I know it was dumb but let's not act like that's why they lost.

Don’t you have to inform the other team before you kick it now?

Onside kick is one thing when it could be a surprise, but now that you got to announce it, just plain stupid.

I understand he's trying to cover up for the defense, but 4th and inches or the field goal game was egregious. I don't care if he made it. He hates field goals and punting. I love him but he has to take what's available sometimes.

They had a 0% stop rate all day on defense. I like the 7% chance.

He should have called timeout with 2:39…

Totally agree. That was a stupid decision to onside kick at that point in the game.

100% chance he goes down by 17 if he kicks off. Couldn’t stop Allen.

Campbell as much as he should get credit for turning the Lions losing culture around ... he will be the downfall of them not winning the SB.

I mean that’s his MO he’s the head coach and his players know the drill. If it works great if it doesn’t he will take responsibility for it. Don’t really see why this is an issue. It’s high risk but football is about taking risks.

The D wasn’t stopping anything that afternoon. They made Allen look like Tom Brady, at his best, all day long. Dan Gamble stays out of the box and keeps you guessing. I’ll stick with him and let him keep the opponent’s guessing.

Their d had less then 7% chance to get a stop yesterday. He knows it and acted accordingly. It was his only chance.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wanted to point out the details and the hard work of his players that helped lead to the win. He said Jalen Carter spends a lot of time practicing blocking kicks and DeVonta Smith spends a lot of time after practice with Jake Elliott practicing recovering on side kicks “A play that is one of the most selfless plays there is, is that onside kick. Smitty's name doesn't go in the paper. Let me ask you a question. Do you know who caught our onside kick in the Super Bowl in 2024? Nobody knows. Grant Calcaterra, because nobody really thinks about it unless the play doesn't go the way you want it to go. Over our past five years -- I had us do a stat -- I think we're 22-22 on onside kicks. That's a lot of onside kicks. They work so hard. DeVonta Smith works so hard with Jake Elliott every Wednesday, every Thursday, every Friday, every special teams period and walkthrough of getting onside kicks. Dallas Goedert does the same. The backups do the same. And that's my point. It's the work that makes the plays. One of the most selfless things, again, is being able to block on that onside kick. That was actually a really good kick. It took a weird bounce. It didn't take a normal bounce. It took a kind of weird one and DeVonta made it because of how much he's worked at it. DeVonta's going to get praise for all the other plays that he made, particularly that over the shoulder one. That just speaks to the selflessness of our guys of how much they've worked at that when we can't even remember who the guy was who made the play in the Super Bowl in 2024.”
