I love your observation and it will make me discuss the remarkable adaptations that prevents giraffes from passing out and suffering brain damage when bending to drink water and when standing up. ADAPTATION 1 Did you know that the distance from the giraffe's heart to its brain is about... 2 meters or more? That's more than the average humans height! Pumping blood up to that great distance and working against gravity is not a joke! That's where the giraffe's heart comes in. A giraffe's heart is unique in several ways. First, it is quite large, weighing up to 11kg and measuring about 2 feet long, which is necessary to pump blood up the long neck to the brain. Second, it has thick walls to generate enough pressure to overcome gravity and push the blood up to the head. ADAPTATION 2 Now, let's move to the neck. Before discussing the incredible roles the valves in the jugular veins perform, let's look at what can happen without them, and then the solution. Problem I: When the giraffe bends down to drink, blood rushes downward to the head. Gravity pulls a huge volume of blood toward the brain, which could cause dangerously high pressure in the head and potentially burst vessels or cause other damage. Solution: They have one-way valves in the jugular veins (the large veins in the neck). These prevent blood from rushing backward uncontrollably into the head when lowered. These valves help regulate and slow the downward flow, avoiding a massive pressure surge to the brain. Also, the neck veins can act as temporary blood storage unit, storing over 1 litre of blood. This prevents blood from flooding the brain and also reduces the amount of blood returning to the heart. As a result, the heart pumps with lower pressure while the head is lowered. This buffers the high head pressure that gravity would otherwise cause. Problem II: When they raise their head up immediately after drinking, blood pressure drops sharply to the brain. A sudden drop could starve the brain of oxygen, causing fainting. This is similar to but much more extreme than the dizziness some people feel when standing up quickly. Solution: When the giraffe raises its head, that stored blood rushes back to the heart quickly. The heart responds with a strong, high-pressure beat that immediately pushes blood back up to the brain, preventing a dangerous drop in cerebral pressure. Impressive right?!show more

I like to OWLMAXX with this simple dumbbell rotation exercise done on both sides of the head, the front of the head, and the back of the head as well. The aim of the game is to take the neck through extended ranges of motion in a controlled manner with added weight. You can also use a small weight plate if you're just starting with this exercise, or just the weight of the head itself hanging off the bench is a great place to start.

These particles had double membranes, and some had folds in the internal membrane—a feature that is unique to mitochondria. We don’t yet know what exactly these particles are or their purpose, but we're excited to learn more about them. UPDATE: Charlie Kirk Blood Spatter, Earpiece, or Necklace? This video is going viral from someone named RangeDayBro on YouTube, saying this is 100% evidence Charlie was shot in the head, BUT… it’s kinda wrong. I was the original person to point out that something looked like it hit Charlies right side of his head when it happened… when I first started looking, I thought the exact same thing he did about the “Blood Splatter”. But I kept slowing down the video, and discovered what appears to be an earpiece or necklace. He also gets the “FLASH” wrong, 100% wrong. Stating that’s where the shooter was.. then said he was hiding in the bush. After combing through video footage, I found what I believe to be 100% the muzzle flash. The shot did not and could not have come from that location because it’s merely the top window panel of the interior hall of flags (I think that’s what it’s called.) The muzzle flash was 100% a reflection off that glass panel from a far off distance, notably in the same general direction they said the shooter was. (See post below) Conclusion: Now, I’m not saying he couldn’t have been shot from anywhere else.. nor in any direction. In fact, I don’t buy the story at all that his neck bones stopped that bullet. As we saw that day, there were several distractions, which I feel played a significant role to allow the real people to get away. I’m only saying his suggestion about the “blood spatter” is just his earpiece or most likely a necklace... It’s important to be accurate and process eliminate these things. Maybe Turning Point USA can confirm if in fact his necklace did pop off, it could settle some of these “theories”. All we want is the truth.

GM. Quick update on our boy. There was a small amount of blood in ChooChoo's stool last night. At 14, we don't take chances, so we brought him in late to run tests. Sending you notes as I talk with the vet: - Cyst on the left kidney, stones on the right (calcium buildup causes the stones) - Nothing else stands out as a concern - His heart looks great That last one got me. He had a heart murmur and high blood pressure when we rescued him at 9. Today, at 14, his heart looks great. We're adding a few things to his protocol and we'll share what and why. We'll also have some solid developments soon for the community rallying around him. 🐾 More good years. Together.
