As I recall, you couldn’t play Guitar Hero on PS3 even with a PS2 USB controller adapter. It is possible for a custom adapter to solve this?

That’s a good question. I can simulate PS3 devices. Any PS3 guitars compatible?

Not with PS2 GH1/2/‘80s on PS3. 😞 You could play other PS2 games with the SIXAXIS or USB. Maybe GH distinguishes a guitar using impossible inputs, like Up + Down or Left + Right… and you just can’t do that when launching a PS2 game.

Hmm I’ll have to experiment. Quick glance it appears the device does hold a dpad button the whole time for detection. May be just hold left and it will work. If this is the case then should just work.

I perhaps the adapters don’t initialize in time. Not sure how the PS3’s PS2 hardware BC does input handling/translation.

Wish I had PS2 guitar and GH game to test. This is exactly kind of thing that gets me excited. If this is a real barrier then I’d love to create a work around for gamers. Should be possible. I need to jailbreak this PS3 for homebrew so may give me a reason to at least pick up the game and see if I can simulate the guitar. If so then we could easily port GH guitars from any other console.

👍 I don’t know if anyone solved this in the years since Guitar Hero III and the USB Les Paul guitar came out (the first one on PS3) but, yeah, GH/2/‘80s were accepted as some of the few games a fully backwards-compatible launch PS3 still could not play.

Oh yeah: The wired PS2 guitars from GH/GH2/GH Rocks the ‘80s still hold value since they don’t have a dongle to lose like later models. If I still had one I’d offer it up, but I don’t. 😞

У меня есть геймпад беспроводной Logitech сделанный по лицензии Sony, через такой адаптер он тоже работать будет?

My adapter should support and PS1 or PS2 controller.

I want to return to the standard of PS2 L2/R2 so bad, you make do with the modern trigger design but flat and pressure sensitive is peak

Yea especially after I started tinkering with the pressure sensitive values… I realized that PS2 essentially already had triggers. But every button was one.

How do you play with the original PS2 controller on PC? This would be great for emulation.

think its possible to convert one to ds4? I have my ps2 controller lying aroound disassembled bc my mom broke something in it during maintenance about 15y ago...

Totally! My joypadOS already has a PS4 USB output mode but I need to circle back and add options for the authentication check the console has. PS4 consoles do an auth check in the controller every 8 minutes so my firmware currently works up until the 8 minute point. Until the PS4 controller auth is fully cracked, there are a few workarounds. Not elegant but possible. Also same case for PS5 and auth. But very soon I should have at least workarounds in place to convert PS2 or any controller to PS4.

I've been thinking for a while in this tweet... And I still don't understand what it means 😂

I made a controller adapter to convert PS1 and PS2 controllers into USB with many different USB modes. One being PS3 output mode. Since both DualShock2 and DualShock3 support pressure sensitive buttons, I was able to map that 1:1 between the PS2 input and the emulated PS3 output.
