Contact mines that detonate on touch. Bottom mines that sit invisible on the sea floor, programmable to let patrol boats pass and detonate under tankers. And Chinese-made rocket mines that launch warheads upward from 200 meters deep when they hear the right engine signature. The U.S. can clear them. Unmanned drones map the sea floor. Helicopters tow magnetic sleds that trick mines into detonating. Remote submersibles attach charges to neutralize individual threats. The problem is time. Clearing a few hundred mines takes weeks with an international coalition. And none of it works while the IRGC is firing missiles from the coastline. You need the shooting to stop before the clearing can start. Which is why the Islamabad talks matter more than any naval operation. Iran admitted it can't find all its own mines. The U.S. can't clear them under fire. The only path to a functioning Strait runs through the room where Vance and Ghalibaf are sitting right now.

He notes that in this case, the PMN-4 mines are used to cover the anti-tank mines. Such minefields are called combined fields, and they are much more difficult to clear than areas containing only one type of mine. They are like this in the beginning. One region over, enemies have heavier armor, have more durable shields, and are more aggressive, forcing you to engage with its mechanics more in order to survive. I wish people would at least look into the game more before criticizing it.
