I might be addicted to Docker! 🐳 The Docker Compose feature lets you set up an entire hacking lab inside a single more configuring containers one at a time.

The Docker addiction is real! I use it to dogfood test everything I build.

Yeah, Docker is awesome! Been using it for a long time but for deploys I prefer to use Dokku. Btw, I can't say in portuguese "I'm addicted to Dokku" cause this will translate bad! 😂

For a hacking lab specifically, the one line I'd add to that compose file: internal: true on the network. The containers still find each other by service name. The lab just loses its route out, which is what you want when the boxes in it are vulnerable on purpose.

Containerization at it's peak

The compose file being the whole lab is the part that matters. I run a small shop and the biggest win we ever got was making the dev environment one file a new person could bring up on day one instead of a three page setup doc that was wrong by March. Same trick for client demos. If I can throw the stack away and get it back in two minutes, I stop being precious about breaking it, and that is when people actually learn the thing.

For a long time, I avoided containers but now I'm a container fanboy.

docker compose single-folder labs are genuinely the fastest way to go from wanting to learn to actually poking at something. what's in your lab right now?

I’ve been using compose from the very beginning, and it’s simply brilliant! Create the script, launch it, and you're done!

What if Chuck is really a bot? A containerized docker in the infinity. The Gordon Agent is fun to play with.

compose files as lab notebooks is underrated. the whole environment is one file you can nuke and rebuild without fear
