Honestly, sis? The same stuff goes through my head when I think about being a dad. Like, I'd absolutely LOVE to have a kid and a wife, but I also dread dealing with the system trying to brainwash them. I'd probably homeschool just to avoid the propaganda machine.

If I followed my checklist, or had better judgement in the woman I chose to have kids with I wouldn't have ever had kids. Having kids was definitely the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. Even though I am extra sad right now because they are moving farther away!

From my understanding, you won't necessarily be prepared when you have kids. Sure you can set goals, make rules, and and plan their life, but it will not be perfect. My opinion, homeschool is best, if you do public school, you should be heavily involved.

Tbf I think this is the right amount of thinking. Most good parents worth their salt are gonna be fretting over all these consequential decisions and having these worries! It's all how you approach it in the moment. But being worried about this stuff just means you care a lot imo

I don’t know if this is a decision you’re actually considering but just in case you are, do not consider the cost. If you have a reasonable partner and are earnest and honest with your kid, and treat them like an individual with their own life goals (ie, not try make them become what you want in life, be it their career or they have to have kids by x age or whatever), then they will repay you with dividends for the investment. They are worth it Powdur.

Let me put it this way as a father who has thought about this and more; Just be aware of what's going on in your child's life and manage however needed. There's pros and cons to things like public school and you put in the time to keep your kid from facing cons alone or at all.

the amount of over planning we do is one of the large reasons why we dont have nearly enough children. If you wait until your life is in perfect order to have kids it will be too late.

Did poor financial stability stop your ancestors from having kids? Open your heart and mind to allow yourself to find someone to love and be loved. You'll never be ready for kids but you'll be surprised how much drive and motivation having a child can instill your soul to do better and be better. My checklist went out the window so long ago I realized it always was changing and never ended up being in the order I wanted.

Kids aren't expensive. I spend ~$8k/yr on kid 1, and even less on kid 2 from efficiencies/sharing. Food, 3.6k/yr. Insurance, 1.5k/yr Utils, up 1k/yr. Diapers, 1k/yr. Clothes 500/yr. Toys 300/yr. If you can't figure out another ~$700/mo... you're right, you shouldn't have kids.
