I note the concerns raised by Eugenie Brown regarding reports on social media about deportees being brought to Jamaica. I want to clarify that Jamaica has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of the United States, but it is not yet operational. No one has been brought...

With “serious” criminal background. So, they are indeed criminals just not “serious”. Tell the ppl the truth. You are indeed accepting criminals bc you’re a corrupt POS who’s a Trump bootlicker. The ppl don’t want it so why force it? Give it up, damn idiot.

Trump will not be in power forever and your corrupt ass will regret siding with him. You still can’t give the ppl an honest reason why you did this, unbelievable!

House-servant, @AndrewHolnessJM says no one's been brought in “yet.” But he's signed a dishonorable and humiliating MOU to rent Jamaica out as a concentration camp in Trump's racist ICE deportation campaign, while the US murders black and brown men in boats in the Caribbean.

We shouldn’t word smith tho. Third country deportees will be deported home via Jamaica. They will be here for some unspecified time. Since they go thru a third party country like Jamaica it implies they are not wanted by their home country, which means it could be sticky…

The ppl you are accepting simply don’t have no IDs and their county either can’t verify them or they’re some serious terrorist. That is why they’re still holding them at the border.

Rescind the MOU!!! By going through with this plan you are making our country complicit in the despicable and barbaric ways people are being arrested and deported. You simply cannot sign Jamaica's name to this. Mandela is crying!!!

Why even make Jamaica a transit point in the first place? What's the benefit to #Jamaica or Jamaicans. Ministers mentioning other islands have made the same deals, does that therefore mean we have to? A half truth is still a LIE @JamaicaGleaner @NationwideRadio

Speculation that the Holiday Inn Express hotel in Rhoose will be used to house Afghans is deeply concerning. I've been contacted by several constituents about this, who are understandably and legitimately concerned. There have also been several reports on social media. As an elected member representing the area, authorities have told me nothing about this. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no public statement issued by the Ministry of Defence. This is unacceptable. Speculation has been ongoing for several days, and an information vacuum has inevitably developed. I therefore wanted to take the opportunity to explain the actions I have undertaken to address this. I have written to the MOD asking them to clarify the situation urgently. To clarify my position, if speculation is correct, I would strongly and categorically oppose the hotel being used for suggested purpose. It is not suitable to provide accomodation of this nature. The hotel was built to provide accomodation for airport passengers. As a result, the vast majority of guests would, in practice, stay at the hotel for a maximum of one night, either before or after their flight. As such, they would not access local NHS services, schools or other public services. This would not be the case if the hotel is used in the manner suggested. By contrast, it would put huge pressure on local amenities and other public services. It is also situated close to a new college that is set to open. If the reports are true, then the plans would have been developed without any consultation with residents. This too would be unacceptable. They should be afforded the opportunity to provide feedback, have their say and raise any concerns they may have. When I receive further updates, I will update residents accordingly. Be assured I will always put the local community first.
