I often get asked for a stock tip, something that will make people rich. 😬 Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to getting rich. It takes good habits and patience. Things like buying stuff you don't need, or worse, borrowing to buy them. The other big one is not having...

Spot on! The real ‘get rich quick’ scheme is avoiding the ‘get poor quick’ traps—impulse buys, debt spirals, and skipping insurance! Big fan of how @Zero1ByZerodha @PrateekLearnapp break down these pitfalls. True wealth grows slowly, like a tree—not fireworks.

Today's middle class big trap is buying Iphones on EMI, spending money on unnecessary things to only show one's status or show-off in society.

"One of the challenging things about the really important stuff in life is that they’re endless battles. If you do a good job focusing today and prioritizing today, if you pick the right thing to focus on, it earns you no bonus points for tomorrow. Tomorrow you show up, and if you spend all that time on YouTube or getting distracted or whatever, that day is gone. Other things are like that, too. Just because you worked out two weeks ago doesn’t mean you don’t need to do it today. Or just because you were a good spouse yesterday, that earns you no bonus points for today. You still need to show up for them. And so I’m trying to get comfortable with the endless nature of those things. A lot of the time we try to resist the endless nature of that stuff. “Oh, I wish it wasn’t that way.” We try to convince ourselves that it’s like a finish line. “If I just do this 21-day cleanse, then I’ll be a healthy person and I won’t have to think about it anymore. If I just buy her something nice for her anniversary, then I can stop worrying about it and I don’t have to [do other things].” No, it’s not like that. It’s endless. As soon as you accept the endless nature, you start looking at it differently. You say, “Okay, it’s not about getting to a particular finish line; it’s about living a daily life that feels sustainable and that I like and that I’m fully engaged in. So it’s about liking my days." Victor Davis Hanson: Elon Musk is a Renaissance man, a Da Vinci of our age—and Democrats hate that. “Elon Musk represents everything [Democrats] are not. He's a Renaissance man of the 21st century. He reinvented social media. He's saving NASA from itself. He created the whole EV industry, basically single-handedly. Let's not even get into the AI, the tunnels and all the other things he does. So, he's a Renaissance man. He's a Da Vinci of our age, and they hate that. This election is starting to come down to the people who lecture us and say, you can't do things, can't do this, can't do that, got to think this way, must be this way, to the people who are getting tired of being lectured. They say we can do stuff, and we're going to do stuff. And one side says, you should be ashamed of who you are. Your Constitution was flawed, it got worse, now it's even the worst of all, you should be guilty of who you are. And the other side says, you know, I'm tired of that. Our civilization has nothing to apologize for. We're better than any other alternative, and we don't have to be perfect to be good. So, I think people were getting to an inflection point, like you pointed out, and you can feel it. You can feel it in the country that people are getting tired of this. And the people, the real people who want to do things and are optimistic and think things are going to get better are going to not vote for them, they don't want to. They don't want their message anymore, their habit. The jig's up. I really believe that.” Victor Davis Hanson with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, October 16, 2024

How will we know if an AI take over is imminent? What are the warning signs? Connor Leahy: “Things will seem mostly normal, just… weird. Things will get weirder…and weirder… and then one day, we will just not be in control anymore. “There won't be a fight. There won't be a war. It won't be dramatic. It will just be that one day the machines are in control, and not us.” “The way I expect [AI take over] to feel is like, if you play chess against a grandmaster, it doesn’t feel like you're having a heroic battle against the Terminator…. it doesn’t feel like you're having this incredible back and forth, and then you lose... No, it feels more like you THINK you're playing well, you think everything is okay, and then suddenly… you lose… in one move, and you don't know why. This is what it feels like to play chess against a grandmaster, and this is what it's going to feel like for humanity to play against AGI. It won’t be some dramatic battle where the Terminators rise up and try to destroy humanity. No, it will be… things get more and more confusing. [Editor's note: Like Sam Altman, out of nowhere, raising up to 10% of world GDP?] More and more jobs get automated faster and faster... More and more technology gets built, which no one even quite knows how the technology works... There will be mass media movements that don't really make any sense... Like, do we really know the truth of what's going on in the world right now, even now with social media? Do you or I really know what's going on? How much of this is fake? How much of it is generated with AI or other methods? We don't know. And this will get much worse.” Imagine if you have extremely intelligent systems, much smarter than humans, that can generate any image, any video, anything, trying to manipulate you well...and being able to develop new technologies to interfere with politics.”

Pavel Durov on why he hasn't had depression in 20 years: "I normally never have depression. I don't remember having depression in the last 20 years, at least maybe when I was a teenager." Pavel's approach to difficult emotions is completely counterintuitive. As he puts it: "I'm a human being like everybody else. I do get to experience emotions and some of them are not very pleasant. But I believe that it's the responsibility of every one of us to cope with these emotions and to learn to work through them." On what creates depression: "Self-discipline is particularly important because without it, how can you overcome this seemingly endless loop of negativity or despair that ultimately leads to depression for some people?" His method: "One of the reasons I don't have depression is I start doing things. I identify the problem, I can see a solution, and I start executing the strategy. If you are stuck in this loop of being worried about something, nothing's ever going to change." The mistake people make: "People often make this mistake thinking 'Oh, I should just have some rest and then regain energy.' This is not how it works. You gain energy by doing something. So you start doing something, then it happens. You feel motivated, you feel inspired, and then ultimately you do something else a little bit more." He continues: "The whole point is to do first and then feel, not feel and then do. Going to the gym is a good example. There are many days when you don't want to start working out. But you have to overcome this initial reluctance and then you get to a point that you enjoy it and you think 'Oh my god, it was such a good idea to come to gym today.'" Action creates energy, not the other way around.
